'Play it down': Trump admits to concealing the true threat of coronavirus in new Woodward book

I'm sorry, that's ridiculous. He got lucky with the death rate, unless you're trying to suggest that Trump has some kind of unique knowledge that would allow him to accurately prophesize the outcome, in which case welcome to North Korea level mythology weirdness, and the recovery ahead is much more difficult due to the economic impact of your infection rate. The rashness and irresponsible nature of this decision would be unforgivable in any sane conversation. He gambled with your lives, and withheld information that would have lead people to make better educated decisions on their own health and safety.

The statements he made were knowingly inaccurate, based on the best information at the time. He lied and people died. There is no debate there. It's fact and will remain as such in the historical record. The only thing to debate, really, is how much do his supporters hate their fellow citizens, to where they would give this asshole another opportunity to lead....and, unlike Trump, I don't have a crystal ball to look into, so I can make no predictions on how it will go, obvious hopes aside.

The funny thing is, Trump wasn't the only one saying that the death rate was too high to make sense....I knew I had said it, I know others that have said it......so question, are we all freakishly mystic? Or was it really that hard to figure out to begin with?

The death rates are public domain. What does too high mean? The very phrase "too high" makes zero sense. How can a death rate be too high. If you think a formula being used to extrapolate death rates is incorrect say so, and provide the rate or rates that you think are flawed and explain how they are the only ones being relied on.

The only flawed death stats were the ones Trump pulled out to deny the actual death rates across the world and got caught on t.v. producing but didn't even back up the position he claimed.

Given that it is a new virus, there is no way anyone could have known the long term impact, in a logical, scientific sense. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. So I would reject both of your propositions.

Imagine we are at a point where a leader of a nation deliberately lies to his people about the danger of a virus, gets caught lying and claims he lied to prevent panic then in the next breath spreads panic with his continued litany of threats about conspiracies ranging from Biden planning to burn down the US to mail fraud to Gid knows what to panic people and his followers can't see any contradiction.

There he was elected claiming to make America great again and in 4 years NOT ONE policy they can explain that he implemented. NOT ONE. The best though is there he was telling all his cult followers what a pro American and great supporter of the military he is and what we have is a pathetic man who dodged being drafted belittling John McCain for being shot down and caught and calling soldiers suckers for having served.

This is what passes as a leader? Sad. Very sad.

Yes and we still do not know. We do know how it can escalate and spread and why but actuarial rates of death are always in progress. All we know is its airborne and obviously the more closed the environment the more likely then it can be caught. That aint difficult to grasp unless you are a President seeking to manipulate for political reasons.

Actually what is sad is how 24/7 negative advertising sells to people like you whereas actual results don't. This isn't 2016 with those campaign issues you want to resurrect, this is 2020. There has been a lot of foreign intervention in this country lately and even in this forum promoting lies and distortions. The focus seems to be on cases not recoveries and deaths but not deaths per infection. Anything negative to promote more Trump hatred. Finally found a Canadian that doesn't agree with those of you here who are Canadian. Maybe you ought to pay attention to one of your own instead of trying to us


With regard to the current data, that is 6.9 million cases and a death to infection of 2.9% well below the rest of the world who has data skewed by China. Why isn't there focus on the reported recoveries and the 40% of cases that were counted as infections but had no medical treatment thus full recovery and not counted in recoveries. That looks to me like well over 6 million recoveries also the tops in the world

Would be happy to discuss what Trump has done and the results generated, you have no interest in actually debating the issues for your entire issue is about Trump supposedly concealing the truth about the virus when the reality is he was using data from W.H.O. and CDC whose data was skewed by China's distortion of reality. Your Canadian flag speaks volumes as again you seem to have no understanding of your own problem so you divert to ours. I will put our 2.9% death to infection rate up against yours with universal healthcare.

I keep having to remind you that when you know neither the numerator (number of actual infections) nor the denominator (actual number of deaths) its impossible to know the real death rate. And since you do not know the actual number of infections you have no idea what the recovery rate is either. Its likely that we will never get an accurate number. But sure, go on guessing. Your guess is almost as good as mine. Just don't pass it off as fact.

Of course it was a deflection and you need to move on from Trump's sordid record. He will go down in history as am embarassement even worse that Joe McCarthy or Nixon in terms of the threat and damage he presented to democratic institutions by making a mockery of them.

Go on tell everyone how he's cleaning the swamp pardoning people. Pardoning was a process outgoing Presidents would engage in where people showed remorse as to a crime they committed. It was a symbolic gesture to usher in a new start. It was traditionally reserved for death sentences. Once again Trump has taken a tradition and used it for blatantly partisan purposes to enable people who worked on his campaigns and engaged in deceit to be protected

This coward will wait until his last day in office to pardon himself and his children and probably Pence and every damn person he gave Covid 19 to he wants to vote for him in his fictitious return from the Isle of Elba in 4 years.
