Do you prefer stepside beds, or fleetside beds? Currently, fleetsides out number stepsides by about 20-1, but it certainly wasn't always that way.
Does the age of the pick-up matter? Now, according to this article, the fleetside wasn't even introduced until 1955, so anything older than that is a moot question.
How about the recent trends toward "sportside", kind of a hybrid between the two?
Also, long beds, or short beds?
Me: I like the aesthetics of stepsides, but even if it's a nice truck to me it's still a truck and needs to be functional as a truck. I tend to prefer long bed fleetsides. I recently had a 2002 F-150 that had a full 8' bed with an extended cab. That thing was 20' long, overall. Navigating parking lots was interesting.
I also once had a 1965 Chevy C10 that had a long bed fleetside, and a 4x8 piece of plywood would lay perfectly flat between the wheel wells and the front and back. That was nice.
