Photo file size (1 Viewer)

What kind of phone do you have? Most come with simple editing features for resizing and other photo manipulation tools.
Nord Oneplus. You can crop, rotate, a few other things...but not resize.

Screenshot of my crop/rotate options (no resize). File size 680kb, 1080x2400, so it actually exceeds dimensions listed above. Uploaded from phone with no resizing.

All indications i see on the net (for the admins/mods): check php.ini, might have gotten overwritten in recent work?
Thanks for this, the ini file has NOT been overwritten, it is the same.

However, we found what we think is an unrelated issue that needs to be addressed.

Perhaps you're scaling the Image but keeping the original Canvas Size?
600x800. Is that what you mean by canvas size?

"Canvas size" is the size of the background that you can put an image into.

The canvas size is the full editable area of an image. The Canvas Size command lets you increase or decrease an image’s canvas size. Increasing the canvas size adds space around an existing image. Decreasing an image’s canvas size crops into the image. If you increase the canvas size of an image with a transparent background, the added canvas is transparent.

"Image size" is the image itself (which can be scaled up or down within a canvas)

What makes the biggest impact on your images is the resolution that you set your phone camera to. If you go into your camera settings on your phone you can set to high resolution (bigger file size) or low resolution (smaller file size).

For pics you want to keep (family / pet type photos) set as high as possible (usually around 300Dpi) and for internet - set as low as possible on the phone - usually around 72Dpi (dots per inch).

If you need to drop the file size format of photos because you accidentally took the pics at high resolution - Photoshop does have a "save for web" feature where you can play with the settings to make the picture easier to upload.

I picked an older version of Photoshop because there is a free online version of Photoshop that saves you from the horrors of using "the gimp" - I don't know how the guy is allowed to keep this going as it copies nearly everything Photoshop does (the older versions of Photoshop) for a photographer.

Saving files

You can save your work as a PSD file (to preserve the whole structure of the document) using File - Save as PSD. You can also save your file for the distribution on the web (through JPG, PNG, SVG, PDF and other formats) using File - Export As - PNG, JPG etc.

The Save for Web window lets you choose the output format. You can also enter the resolution of the output image. Now, you can already use Photopea to resize images (File - Open, File - Export As - JPG, enter the new size and Save).

I've used The GIMP for years, because I don't need an image editor enough to pay for one.

I've always hated the Gimp. I was lucky as a teacher to have Photoshop paid for when teaching my Photography and Digital Art students so I recommend Photopea as a much simpler tool.

A simpler alternative is Google's own Snapseed App you can download free from the App and Apple Store

Still unable to post phone camera photos without getting the "too large" notifications.

Here is the size of the photo that was rejected.

I've started having the same issue, even with cropped screenshots sometimes. To make them work I go to imageresizer.com, and set the target size to 2mb. That's always worked.

Hrrm...

Should be able to upload 2M (2048) file up to 1024 x 1024.

Looking into it.

I've never had a problem with screenshots. I guess the solution is to take a photo, screenshot it, then post.

php version needed upgraded. For security reasons, didn't reply earlier.

Let us know if you still have the issue or if anyone sees something unexpected with the forum.
Hi. Is this related also to some of the issues we are finding linking GIF's and memes ?

After pasting the hot link sometimes only the URL for the GIF/Meme shows in the post vice the image itself.

Thanks

So this, a screenshot of a simple cartoon, was too large for the server.

Maybe the name is too large this time. 😀
