I am not sure if this belongs in the science forum or the religion forum since the orientation of this thread is believed to be both scientific and divine.

I am making my way through the DaVinci Code and ran across the concept of the number Phi. Dan Brown (the author of the book) makes a few references to the history of the number and then moves on. I did some research on this number, as it had somehow escaped me during my high school and college career.

Basically, for those who don’t know – Phi (letter in the greek alphabet) is understood to be a pre-defined irrational number (much like Pi). Phi = 1.618033988749895...

Basically, several physical constraints throughout nature adhere to this number by way of ratios. For example, the distance from the top of the head to the finger tips- divided by the total height of a person will give you 1.618. The distance from the top of the head to the navel and elbow- divided by the distance from the top of the head to the finger tips is also 1.618.

I found this to be very interesting.
