Yes, the governor of FL fills that seat. The person the governor appoints will hold the Senate seat until 2026, when they'll run in a special election. Then, whomever wins that 2026 election would run again in a 2028 regular Senate election for a 6 year term.

DeSantis has already decided and announced he will fill choose and appoint Rubio's replacement in early January.

If DeSantis moves to a cabinet position, the filling of that Senate seat will precede the Desantis resignation of his governorship.

Maybe, but it's also possible what Trump wants him to do might be something he likes or at least thinks is reasonable. This defense position could be a fit DeSantis might really think is a good one for him and his future. Thus, he might be more than willing to hear and consider Trump's reasoning on the Senate seat - even if that is Lara Trump. I would certainly argue Lara took on a big and important RNC role this year and she and Whatley did an outstanding job. I'm confident Lara Trump holds strong conservative values and would be a hard working and effective conservative Senator. Then, beyond an appointment, I think she'd be very likely to get the 2026 votes of Floridians to serve as their senator. As I discussed, she was one of the stars of the 2024 election in the minds of many Republican voters. I can't remember who they are, but several Florida politicians have already endorsed Lara Trump to be the replacement Senator. I don't think I've read that DeSantis has voiced any particular preferences yet - beyond reading he isn't including his own name in his considerations.
 
He sure doesn't seem to be backing down which kinda signals Trump still has his back.
 
Sounds like Hegseth has cancelled or postponed afternoon meetings today, to fly down to Florida to talk to Trump. I think Trump likes Hegseth and I wonder if he'll have another position in mind for Pete, one not requiring this confirmation process.

I don't know whether Trump or Hegseth requested this in person meeting with Trump.
 
Hopefully Trump realizes the gig is up. However, this will be two down even before hearings....not good. I think Tulsi may be next up.

Oh Jeez - the "....not good" is just more of your TDS drama. Trump has named a ton of nominees and the process is working out just fine, great in fact. Most all of them will get through the process and when it's decided it's best for one to drop out, the Trump team is ready with another choice (and I'd certainly expect both Bondi and DeSantis, if he ends up replacing Hegseth, will soar through confirmation). Quit needlessly stirring some silly pot which you fabricated due to your "very core" issue, lol. Such all the time high drama with your TDS, Callen.
 
No idea what you are talking about. No drama on my part. Most of his nominees are confirmeable even if not qualified. I have only spoken against a few. Gaetz, Hegseth and Gabbard. Kennedy is a harmless joke

Would rather see DeSantis in the position.

Tubby is an example of someone that goes right to being a senator from no political experience whatsoever. Rumor has it he got his PE degree back when any stupid schmuck could get a degree in PE. No anymore of course.
