I'm not Gates' strongest advocate but I will give him credit for actually taking on some of the world's most pressing problems with sobriety and putting his money where his mouth is. And there actually have been some successes, just not as much as he had hoped, which is the point of the article that apparently neither you nor the OP bothered to read.

It's so easy to sit on your ass and laugh at someone else's misery, isn't it? To actually get off one's ass and attempt to do the heavy lifting required to help people in misery requires character - the thing that Republicans used to talk about but stopped talking about because pretty much everyone knows by now that they're the antithesis of character.
