Even if the leftists got what they wanted and all guns are banned in the USA, people would just make their own guns. A gun is quite simple in design so people could make them, its that simple. So such a gun ban would not work for that very reason.

Let's test your theory by banning all guns, now.

What "leftists" want all guns banned in the US?

Even with current technology, could illegal manufacturing outdo legal manufacturing? Why would people be motivated to produce boatloads of illegal guns?

Have people been making boatloads of automatic weapons since they're very restricted?

~Why are rightists obsessed with guns?~

Hell, some 5yo is gonna grow up and invent guns that can't be detected at airports, etc. Maybe 3D printed (certain parts).

Then the shit hits the fan.

How do you suppose we should start?

Some.

If guns were banned, all manufacturing would be illegal so of course it would outdo legal manufacturing since legal manufacturing wouldn't exist in a world where guns are banned. As to why people would be motivated to produce boatloads of guns, the same reason they're motivated to produce boatloads of drugs, which they do.

Impossible, even if you could make a gun entirely out of plastic you've still got the bullets that would be detected.

Name some "leftists" that want all guns banned.

Some of the points are that there are boatloads of legal guns manufactured in the US and illegal manufacturing is unlikely to outdo that, nor produce better guns.

Guns and drugs don't really make a good comparison.

Back in the day, we had a name for these: Zip Guns!

It's been proven many times.
Kids who grew up with the FARC guerillas have been fashioning fully functional semi-autos out of scrap metal in the jungle in South America for years.
They may not look great but they work.

So if a bunch of kids in a South American jungle can make a functioning gun, imagine machinists with a wide variety of source materials and sophisticated tools.

I might add that the bannerhoids are a minority even in the Democratic Party however knowing your history, I'm sure you'll continue believing that all Dems want all guns banned.

Some people of the left do.

Dude, I am really sorry that you can't have the world exactly as you like it.
I've owned firearms my entire adult life, and I've been a liberal my entire adult life.
Somehow I manage to NOT spend most of my waking hours posting endless screeds about how "some lefties want all guns banned" and how that means the end of the world.
Instead, I explain to other lefties why we'll never see guns banned, how it would be impossible given there's four hundred million of them in private hands and how prohibition would be even less effective than the Volstead Act and the War on Drugs combined.
I also explain that just the cost alone of rounding up four hundred million guns would drive us to near bankruptcy and how it would simply create an entire underground industry.

Yah, you'd need to ban ammunition and reloading supplies to have an effect.

.

Wrong. Guns that are undetectable by standard means exist now. They are in most cases readily disposable. No metal is required. It's simply a matter of engineering. Undetectable guns have no need for longevity.

There's zero reason why bullets/cartridges can't be made out of plastic.

You can also buy for something less than two or three thousand the milling equipment to produce weapons by the dozen.

They want some guns banned, for no good reason. Criminals who wanted those guns would still just make them.

I've known people who want all guns banned, nobody famous so you probably wouldn't know them.

Of course there are boatloads of legal guns produced in the USA today, what Im talking about is a hypothetical situation where all guns are banned, in which case all gun manufacturing would be banned, so therefore you couldn't manufacture guns legally so all gun manufacturing would be illegal.
Guns and drugs don't really make a good comparison.
Sure they do, both are heavily regulated, or at least both can be heavily regulated depending on where you go since regulation levels vary from place to place, and with both guns and drugs there's lots of money, in places where they're illegal or heavily regulated.

Back in the day, we had a name for these: Zip Guns!
Well yes zip guns are quite easy to make, but high quality guns can also be made in private workshops that rival those that are factory produced.

Exactly!

So you're the exception. I've met strong liberals who are for gun rights, but they're not the general rule.
