Pentagon says it 'failed' its first, massive audit — as it expected

The Defense Department has failed an audit almost three decades in the making, the Pentagon's No. 2 official said Thursday. But the results were expected and showed what the agency already knew — that "more work lies ahead of us."

Congress first required the Defense Department to undertake a comprehensive audit in 1990, but the agency didn't manage to get around to it until late last year.

"Everyone was betting against us that we would even do the audit," Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan told reporters, adding: "It was an audit on a $2.7 trillion organization. The fact we did the audit is substantial."

The announcement came a day after the National Defense Strategy Commission, an independent agency appointed by Congress, reported that the Defense Department isn't financially or strategically set up to wage two wars at once and could even lose a war against China or Russia individually.

COMMENT:-

Isn't the last paragraph of the clip even more interesting than the fact that it took the Pentagon almost 30 years to do an audit of itself?

However, the last paragraph of the clip shows that it is absolutely imperative that the budget for the Pentagon be massively increased - right?

Don't you just love how every time the concept of spending cuts come up, it's always education, healthcare, and other benefits for mainstream America that are first on the chopping block? Yet when it comes to trimming the fat from our military-industrial complex or the war on drugs, for example, we can't do that cause that's librul soshalism. :doh

One audit into $3.7 Trillion took literally years to complete. That audit was announced well prior to 9/11. (Some CT folks said the audit was one target of the terrorists)

Not until we find out where the money we already spent went. We've been outspending our strategic opponents by huge margins for decades. If they pose a significant threat, then that money has been very badly mismanaged indeed.

Not true.

The report says that the US is in danger of being invaded and conquered by either the Russians or the Chinese (or both of them together) and might lose that war. The ONLY thing to do is to up defence spending to ensure that the Canadians and Mexicans don't align themselves with the Communist Hordes and provide bases for that invasion.

Not only MUST "The Wall" be built, but there has to be two of them and each of them has got to be as impregnable as the Maginot Line was. Since the Germans never actually managed to breach the Maginot Line, that just shows that America MUST completely fortify both its northern and southern borders to keep the Communist Hordes out.

And then, of course, there are all those beaches.

Why if the US could invade Africa from staging points in the United States of America that means that the Russians/Chinese could invade America from staging points in Russia/China so it is essential for American national security that both the East and West Coasts be fully fortified as well.

ONLY when America has ringed its borders with impregnable fortresses will the American Way be truly safe so that the US can show the world what **R*E*A*L** **F*R*E*E*D*O*M** actually is.

[Oops, I'm channelling Douglas MacArthur and George Patton at the same time and when they get shouting at each other in an argument over which of them was actually the best general in the history of the universe, I get confused as to where reality is.]
