HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A bill seeking to protect those who travel to Pennsylvania to get abortions by barring public officials from cooperating with authorities in other states that criminalize the practice advanced Wednesday through the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.

The legislation passed 117-86. It now goes to the GOP-controlled state Senate, where it faces a chilly reception.

The measure seeks to prevent public officials in Pennsylvania, where abortion is legal up to 24 weeks, from cooperating with authorities in other states who try to block their residents from coming to Pennsylvania to get an abortion.

All but one Democrat voted for the bill, while 16 Republicans joined them.

Hopefully the PA repugs will figure out that women in this state don't want the evangs to take their health care rights away from them. It was just demonstrated that threatening to take women's rights away is a sure way to lose elections.

It's unfortunate that it has to be this way. A State without abortion shouldn't be capable of prosecuting an individual who goes to another State for one where it is legal. It's insane they're trying that tactic.

The Holy Rollers are a big voting block.

This law is unnecessary and is little more than law as fear mongering.

It is simply wrong to believe that one state could charge someone for an action in another state. Alabama, for example, could not prosecute someone having an abortion in PA because they lack jurisdiction in PA. It's no different than a state that outlaws gambling going after someone at a blackjack table in Vegas. It simply cannot be done.

Some States are crafting laws for just that purpose though.

Can they prosecute someone for driving a person to another state to receive an abortion?

Yep, fear mongering - do you even read the news

LUBBOCK — Three county commissioners approved an ordinance Monday that would bar pregnant Texas women from traveling through the unincorporated area of Lubbock County for an abortion in another state.
Lubbock County is now the largest county to weigh in on the policy pushed by anti-abortion activists. It joins three other rural counties — Goliad, Mitchell and Cochran — in Texas that have already passed similar ordinances, despite the state already having one of the most restrictive bans on abortion in the U.S.

It won't pass the gop controlled senate as I'm sure most of us on here already have surmised.

Some counties in texas have passed, no driving on our roads to go get an abortion laws. How stupid, are they going to give a pregnancy test to every woman in a car on their roads?

Meanwhile...in TX....

FYI: No one believes the apologists that walk around saying "it will never happen"

You all lied when you said no one would touch Roe. Fool us once and all that...

The repugs should have figured out that abortion is not a topic to win elections with.

That's how a rational society would operate. But a rational society would not force a 10 year old rape victim out of state to terminate a 6 week pregnancy.

I mean, fundamentally I do not think that these sorts of laws will pass mustard, they do interfere with the right to travel. Which does exist, even though Sov-Cits try to abuse it to mean they don't need drivers licenses and such. So I don't think they would survive challenge. But yes, they are trying all sorts of shit just to make sure people within the State cannot go to another State for an abortion where it is legal.

Incorrect. Texas and other states have enacted legislation that effectively provides for civil bounty hunters to sue others assisting in abortion including travelling out of state.

If its fear mongering then Republicans wouldn't care, yes?

That itself is a lie. I have been arguing for Roe's repeal for decades, and so have most people who value the rule of law over political outcomes.

This is part of their 'ruling' mentality. They do not think of the consequences, they only care about getting done what they want.

Jurisdictional boundaries are how we legally operate, and there's really no debating that point.

Legally they cannot. They lack jurisdiction. If they try, it will be tossed on appeal.

This will lead to MASSIVE lawsuits against the state and prosecuting attorney.

You know it, I know it, even those proposing such a thing know it, that is not the point. Looking like the tough guy protecting that poor defenseless fetus is all that matters.
