"I keep seeing liberal commentators like George Takei trying to frame Kamala Harris as the best candidate to bring peace to the middle east, despite her coming directly out of the administration which has been lighting the region on fire with its insane warmongering.

So let’s be clear here: Peace is not on the ballot in November. Americans are voting for Red War or Blue War. That’s it. Those are the choices.

I repeat: Peace. Is. Not. On. The. Ballot. Nobody who stands an actual chance at winning is going to bring about peace, because the US president is a manager of the US empire, and the US empire depends on constant warmongering.

Any debates over whether Trump or Harris are the one to bring about peace are nonsensical, because neither of them are. It’s like arguing over which car salesman might start handing out free cars — that’s not the job. It’s not what the people who have that job do..."

Mind you, if "peace is NOT on the ballot" the best option is to cast your vote for Trump because he has promised to end all the wars "very quickly".

True enough.

People need to get over that we fight wars though. Perhaps its true that our recent conquests in the middle east weren't very self-interested and were strongly motivated by domestic lobbyists and foreign interests, especially Israel.

But we do live in a modern Empire. We're going to fight wars if we want to maintain our presence and quality of life. The question isn't whether or not fighting wars is morally good or bad - they're going to happen either way pragmatically speaking - it's whether or not wars we fight serve the national interest, which right now they don't. Foreign policy based on the national interest would be focused in Taiwan (precious resources) and South America (precious resources, lithium, oil, etc.) not on some money pit in the Middle East.

What is your understanding as to how many foreigners the U$ government has murdered/facilitated the murder of by proxy/etc. What is your understanding as to how many 'resources' are needed by the US empire to conduct constant imperialism/warmongering/regime-changing/etc.? And is there a bigger 'polluter'? Ime, Democrats used to care. Now, ime, they suck as badly as the stinking Republicans. ugh...

"Author Stephen King has a new viral tweet featuring a picture of himself wearing a Kamala Harris t-shirt modeled after an Obama campaign sticker captioned with the words “I’M SPEAKING” — a phrase with which she drew headlines and severe public outcry last week by using it to shut down anti-genocide protesters at a campaign rally in Detroit. That’s right: they’re using her condescending shutdown of pro-Palestine demonstrators as a fun girlboss campaign slogan now. God damn it I hate Democrats so ****ing much...."

The only way to believe Democrats are significantly better than Republicans or vice-versa is to both (A) be unable to distinguish actions from words and (B) to completely ignore foreign policy.

(A) means you have to look solely at your preferred party’s platform while ignoring the actions they actually take, which are not drastically different from the actions the other party takes relative to the 99.99% of policies and systems they leave in place from administration to administration.

(B) means you have to pay zero attention to all the violence, tyranny and abuse the US government inflicts upon populations around the world, of which there is no meaningful difference between parties at all. The overwhelming majority of American violence, tyranny and abuse is directed not at Americans but at people outside the United States, so by excluding this from your analysis you are excluding almost all of the evils of your preferred party when claiming it is morally superior to the other...."

What war in recent memory did the Democrats also not support, at least in its initial phases? I grant you Republicans have been more bloodthirsty, especially in the Middle East, but pro-war sentiment isn't partisan.

In terms of how we should conduct Empire, I think we should conduct empire where it serves us. Whether that's by supporting regime change in Argentina to open up the lithium market, supporting Taiwan for precious metals, or giving money to Ukraine to weaken an adversary. Not all imperialism is conducted via outright war and conquest.

I think where a lot of people "lose the plot" is when they come to the realization that US imperial policy was never about "spreading freedom and democracy" (unless the democratic government supports us ;) ). The United States uses whatever justification is necessary to manufacture consent from its citizens and the international community.

I appreciate this thread and for the most part agree. If Trump doesn't play ball on continued global conflict, he's liable to catch another bullet from a lone gunman.

In terms of how we should conduct Empire, I think we should conduct empire where it serves us. Whether that's by putting sanctions on Venezuela to control the oil market, supporting regime change in Argentina to open up the lithium market, supporting Taiwan for precious metals, or giving money to Ukraine to weaken an adversary. Apparently you favor stinking rotten largely secretive U$ foreign policy. Ugh..

You mention Venezuela and U$ sanctions. Do you not understand that the misery created by sanction$ greatly exacerbates 'the illegal immigration problem?'

How do you weigh the benefits vs. the costs of stinking rotten U$ foreign policy?! ugh..

Shit puppet Trump has LARGELY always 'played ball' like the rest of the D/R shit puppet$.

You're actually 100% on the money here, edited my post. Venezuela is a bad example of "good" imperial policy for the reasons you mention.

I think what I was trying to point out is that policy conducted in our hemisphere is generally self-serving (although not always) thanks to folks like John Bolton :).

....policy conducted in our hemisphere is generally self-serving (although not always) thanks to folks like John Bolton :).

I see it as 'thanks to the some 160,000,000 Republicrat supporters whose votes affirm/legitimize the shit puppet likes of Bolton and virtually every other D/R shit puppet in politics, media, etc.

Hopefully some day an effective, honest, rational, realism-based, etc., political movement can emerge and do to this ridiculous, brain-laundered, 'Republicrat authoritarianism' what Dorothy did to 'the Wicked Witch of the west'...

Anyone voting for any political candidate in the belief that they'll bring peace to the Mid East has gotta be pretty ignorant.

Theres lots of other issues though.

I didn't know the US started all these recent wars. Thanks for enlightening me.

Or I can be part of a nation with taxes and have my taxes along with those of my countrymen assist the Ukrainians against a hostile foreign invader.

I know the idea of taxes makes you cry.
