The idea that expansion necessarily involves human workers is problematic as we enter the era of AI. Not only do companies no longer need their current entry level employees; they don’t need to create new entry level positions either. What represents economic contraction or growth is no longer a simple matter of reading the tea leaves that are job numbers.
I understand that which is why Trumps claim of bring back thousands of jobs is bogus. Nonetheless companies will not invest in expansion when there is such uncertainty about the economic environment. Plans to invest isn't investing. Capital investment , including foreign investment is down.

This is what happens when you have an egotistical moron who thinks he knows everything, yet listens to no one, particularly experts, yet claims to be "smarter than the experts," a "stable genius," wielding complete control over the economy.
Which is what I would expect to see. The cost of growth is significantly less when you no longer have to factor in worker pay, amenities, real estate, liabilities and benefits as overhead. It doesn’t require as much investment to expand.
