What people miss is that papa johns could leave their prices right where they are and still make a mint. Like the small business owner who makes half a mil........why would he cry if he only made 450k? **** em.
A buck or two.
Lets assume we are talking about a $12 pizza.
Two Bucks is approximately a 16% increase in product cost to the consumer.
Now add 16% to ALL of your product purchases as well as all of your service fees (haircut, dry cleaner, etc, etc).
Does that sound like fun yet?
Do you know what the price of a $10 pizza was in the mid 90's?
Hint: It's the same as it is now, just made with cheaper ingredients.
IMO, this will be the first of many price hikes on goods and services we will all have to pay to foot the bill for Obamacare.
That didn't answer the question.
Does a 16% increase in all your living costs sound like fun yet?
Yeah! **** THOSE GUYS!
REDISTRIBUTE THE WEALTH MAAAAAAN!!!!
Are you kidding me? John Roberts and the ACA SCOTUS Ruling
I really appreciate this, ttwtt. I used to have a con law buddy who kept me apprissed of new rulings but I am lazy and don't do much court-watching on my own. Last time I looked, I did not expect the decision to come out this summer, and I sure as hell did not expect any portion of Obamacare to be upheld.
This decision deserves a thread of its own. Will you start one?
Either way, thanks again. That was most kind of you.
I'm sure it will have a bigger effect than gas prices have had.

Papa John's CEO John Schnatter says that Obamacare will result in a $0.11 to $0.14 price increase per pizza, or $0.15 to $0.20 cents per order, Pizza Marketplace, a trade publication, reports. (Hat tip: @dkberman via Twitter.)
Under Obamacare, the company, which is the third-largest pizza takeout and delivery chain in the United States, will have to offer health care coverage to more of its 16,500 total employees or pay a penalty to the government.
OMG...a 15 to 20 cent increase on a 14.00 pizza to give 16,500 employees a chance at having health care...
Anyone that doesnt believe thats a value is NUTS...because if they dont have insurance we will pay far more for their trip to the emergency room...
Papa John's Pizza To Raise Prices Because Of Obamacare, CEO John Schnatter Says
One Papa John's franchise owner in Texas, Judy Nichols, says the law could interfere with her ability to open more restaurants.
“I have two options, I can stop offering coverage and pay the $2,000 fine, or I could keep my number of staff under 50 so the mandate doesn't apply,” she told Legal Newsline. Nichols added that the law may cost her between $20,000 to $30,000 extra in taxes. “Obamacare is making me think about cutting jobs instead," she said.
IMO, this will be the first of many price hikes on goods and services we will all have to pay to foot the bill for Obamacare.
It has been beaten to death shortly after the ruling came out, remants of the discussion may remain under the constitution forum.
where have you been the last 50 years? The price of most every essential item has gone up....
If companies decide to pay for HC bennies, then they will, as history shows, pass those costs on to us, the consumers. If they take the "fine" they will pass those costs on to us, the consumers.
However you shake Obamacare out, we will have to pay for the costs of those that don't have insurance. Tax hike is my best guess. You've heard the old saying - "nothing in life is free", yes?
My question is why this time did Papa Johns feel the need to have a press conference on raising prices? I'm tired of restaurants trying to voice off political opinion. Guess what? I don't care! Serve me a pizza, or I take my money elsewhere. Kindly hold the side of politics.
It should prolly be noted that Schnatter said "will have to offer health care coverage to more of its 16,500 total employees or pay a penalty to the government."
In otherwords he is not talking about total people that will be added to insurance as being 16,500...but part of. That could mean as little as 1 person or as much as 16,499 employee's, or somewhere in between. So yeah prices will rise...more than likely across the whole spectrum and not just in the pizzaria buisness.
The article also mentions another side effect of Obamacare....that of more people getting laid off....at a time when our unemployment is higher than ...should I say...what WAS the norm.
From article:
IMO Obamacare is going to widen the divide that already exists between small buisness and big buisness.
Edit to add: And if people will be laid off that just means that you'll be paying for their welfare...which could cost just as much money as what we are paying now. Possibly more depending on how things go. And yeah...maybe even less. But overall with the lay offs and price increases I would bet that it would be the same as or more than what we are paying now.

Both my kids worked as waiter/waitress at restaurants while attending college, so I always tip generously if they provide even satisfactory service, because I know how much they depend on and appreciate their tip money.code1211 said:I delivered pizzas when much younger and always overtip. My daughter manages a restaurant so there's that, too.
Companies have been using temp or part-time employees as far back as I can remember, to keep from paying benefits such as health care or retirement.code1211 said:This might have the effect that nobody has a full time job anymore.
It's just the latest dog to kick.where have you been the last 50 years? The price of most every essential item has gone up....
We knew businesses were going to have to do this. We said it at the time during the last election. This is why you weren't supposed to vote for Obama. We knew who he was and what he wanted to do, and we knew it would harm America, and it is.
This is most certainly true, Billy, but it isn't the whole story. If the working poor have health insurance, they will have more disposable income and no doubt, they will buy more pizza. It's possible that if sales and labor costs both rise, most Papa John's franchises could see a net profit.
This is why I support universal coverage, in large part. However, I have accumulated so many objections to Obamacare that I believe this law actually sets the reform movement back, rather than furthering it.
Kal'Stang, you are 100% correct, but I am not sure this will happen. I don't think any economist is certain about the effect Obamacare will have, and I reiterate my complaint. How the hell is it best for us to suffer needless added uncertainty about our economic future?
