Further, will this apply to ALL religious buildings, or just Islamic ones?
B) It lists enough of them positively to support the fact that there is NO right to build freely anywhere you want.
That seems odd. If they haven't broke any laws or building codes, on what grounds are they barred from building on that space?
And here again...I didnt say they are barred legally. But they don't have any kind of positive right to build there just because they want to, either.
It's amazing though, if this was a Christian church being built all the critics of this Mosque would be screaming 1st amendment violation if people wanted to stop the building of the Christian church.
How about just the ones who are insensitive enough to try to build theirs so close to a massacre perpetrated by their more zealous adherents?
So you don't have a positive right to wear a redshirt on Sundays simply because you're not legally barred? That seems silly. I think Ikari is right on this, there are rights not enumerated in the constitution. This is one of them.
If a Christian zealot group had massacred a bunch of people and toppled a monument, I would be just as disturbed at the insensitivity of christians trying to build a church practically on top of it, too.
Except, see...here in America, there's probably already a church really close. Because churches aren't all that out of place, being that Christianity is vastly more common here in America than Islam. A mosque...yeah it kinda sticks out and makes people take notice.
The people who committed this act weren't members of this mosque. Why should they be punished for something they didn't do?
So it's ok for a Christian church to be there, but not a Mosque? Wow, the intolerance of some is simply amazing. And critics of Islam say Islam is the religion of intolerance, HA!
and yet AGAIN...I didnt say they should be punished. But their lack of sensitivity is a little disconcerting.

They should be lumped into the same category as the people who bombed 9/11, but not punished. Right?
This does give the impression that your zeal is only directed against Islamics.
Are you going to actually respond to what I am saying or are you going to keep trying to play these idiotic "gotcha" games with attributing your feigned indignation to my posts?
I mean seriously...save us some time now and let me know what your intentions are because if it's to keep doing what you're doing, I have no further interest in it. So what's it gonna be, Catz?
Then your perception is warped and you might want to read twice before posting to give yourself an extra chance to digest it.
I see very clearly that what you want is to treat the individuals who want to build the mosque as if they are somehow responsible for, or implicated in, the attacks of 9/11.
And what I would say to that is that we are not engaged in a religious war.
We are a country where the government stays out of religious affairs, by and large.
And, I do not believe that we should encourage local governments to discriminate on the basis of religion in issuing building permits.
Or, maybe your posts are about 90% emotionalism and 10% logic.
OK, I'm done with you at this point. You and those who act like you, calling people fascists and other "emotionalism" are exactly why my stays away from here get more and more lengthy. I'll just end this now and let you have your last word so you can feel good about yourself for the rest of the day.
I didn't say it was off limits. But it should not be downplayed as being a hike away from what was a smoldering pile of rubble. It's practically on top of it and shows a little insensitivity on the parts of these Muslim groups building it.
no doubt. that's what bothers me about this. why build there?

Well clearly, according to Ikari we are fascists and the resident menopause hormones ad, we're illogical. But whatever. Glad we are in agreement.
