Our debt is not a problem

Even then too. I opposed the Trump tax cuts.

This thread was interesting when it was about whether reducing the debt is needed. Now it's turning into yet another R v D finger pointing exercise.

Reducing spending or raising taxes now will create a deep recession

IF we don't recognize the people responsible we can't fix it.

Sure, if funding them means we raise everyone's taxes by 23%.

Or conversely we shit can all bills that aren't funded, until they figure out a way to fund them.

Buying votes is easy! Until you have to pay for it.

Likely some measure of both things need doing to balance any budget.
wild assertions beyond reality

Short term pain, long tern gain.

If there was a way to reduce the debt without a spending cap crisis to provoke it, that would be great. But there isn't.

We're going into a recession regardless.

Did.

Got an A.

This si someone who needs to learn some economics.
Econ 101 does not teach you how to manage a federal budget ............

No. You reduce spending and increase taxes when the economy is booming

This is not political....it's economics

the big problem is that servicing debt continues to become a larger item in the federal budget.

As I've brilliantly and famously said. If something can't go on, eventually it won't.

When will right wingers drop the ridiculous idea that the government is the same as an individuals finances? Whenever I hear that, I know who I am listening to isn’t educated in the least on the subject.
it's not, but maybe it should be.

6.8% of revenue. Very low

OK thanks

Let's hope we don't get invaded by aliens either
there is no if in the debt becoming a problem. Problems with it WILL arise if we continue to act as if it isn't a problem. Problems that could destroy our economy and guarantee you or anyone else will NEVER see socialist medicine, etc, etc... Problems that could allow China to become the worlds dominant power, with the consequences for all free nations at that point.

I've heard this speech for decades

China will be the dominate power no matter what we do

It's basic demographics

it was true then and its doubly true now when we are entering more dangerous GDP to debt ratios and higher interest rates. ... but back in 2000 they supposedly balanced the budget at one point, allowing us to equalize it somewhat.

china will only be the dominate power if we act like idiots and allow them to achieve that. unfortunately, in many ways that is exactly what we are doiing.

China has 4 times our population. Once they develop a full Middle class its over. Same for India

That's the theory. In practice it's not always so cut and dried.

If you can't do it when you should, then you better do it when you can.

That is a horrible economic theory

A major recession causes revenues to drop like a rock

Uggggggg

No argument here. Still the lesser of two evils.
Uhhhh. No. If the debt is not a problem today don't create a massive crisis that will affect millions
