Nah. I think the funding should come from the US.We can get together at his joint and throw a party. I'm sure @Allan would foot the bill.
You Canadians are always wanting free stuff!Nah. I think the funding should come from the US.
In a general sense you're right - leaders of civil rights movements should be given an opportunity to meet with political leaders.Fair enough. Idk, if Trump ever did. He should have. But I do know that LBJ met with MLK. So we do have examples of our leaders meeting with protest leaders. Whether Canadians can say the same, I know not. My point remains regardless of whether Trump met with any protesters or not. He and Treudeau both should whenever it has a major impact on the affairs of the national interests. Surely you agree.
Precisely. Great analogies. In a general sense you're right - leaders of civil rights movements should be given an opportunity to meet with political leaders.
This is different though. The leaders of this convoy had a stated aim to attempt (via the GG and Senate) overrule the government. Should the PM meet with people like that? Should Biden have met with the Jan 6 insurrectionists? Should the Michigan Governor have met with the people who were planning on kidnapping her and overthrowing the State government?
You're conflating peaceful protesters with rioters. In a general sense you're right - leaders of civil rights movements should be given an opportunity to meet with political leaders.

These truckers are not peaceful. You're conflating peaceful protesters with rioters.
In many peaceful protests you'll find criminal factions. You can't lump them into those who are peacefully protesting. These truckers are not peaceful.
These are not peaceful protesters. Every day in Ottawa at the Parliament Buildings there are peaceful protesters with all kinds of issues (including covid restrictions) they want to publicize and make the government aware of. They obey the laws. These clowns closed down a whole section of a city for weeks. Not legal, not peaceful. You're conflating peaceful protesters with rioters.
Right. And the criminal factions are being removed, along with their vehicles. In many peaceful protests you'll find criminal factions. You can't lump them into those who are peacefully protesting.
What, in your mind, constitutes a peaceful protest? Describe it for me.These are not peaceful protesters. Every day in Ottawa at the Parliament Buildings there are peaceful protesters with all kinds of issues (including covid restrictions) they want to publicize and make the government aware of. They obey the laws. These clowns closed down a whole section of a city for weeks. Not legal, not peaceful.
"'The duty of an opposition is to propose nothing, to oppose everything" - Conservative PM John Diefenbaker, when he was in opposition. The ideology of the 'conservatives' appears to devolve down to this: use any argument, no matter how contorted and conflicted, to find fault with things said and done by Democratic government functions and Democratic spokespersons.
A protest that doesn't break laws. Doesn't vandalize property, doesn't substantially impede other's rights, doesn't assault people etc. What, in your mind, constitutes a peaceful protest? Describe it for me.
You're describing what it is not. I asked you to describe what it looks like.A protest that doesn't break laws. Doesn't vandalize property, doesn't substantially impede other's rights, doesn't assault people etc.
I did - a legal protest is one that doesn't break laws. You're describing what it is not. I asked you to describe what it looks like.
If I ask you why you went to the store and you replied: "Because." you really didn't answer the question. It's interesting that you know what a protest should not look like, but you can't say what it should look like. The truckers have a grievance. How should they have protested to get their message heard?I did - a legal protest is one that doesn't break laws.

I described above how a legal protest should look. It should look like the regular daily Parliament Hill protests - laws respected. If I ask you why you went to the store and you replied: "Because." you really didn't answer the question. How are those protests working out?I described above how a legal protest should look. It should look like the regular daily Parliament Hill protests - laws respected.
Just an update this wasn't pepper spray. One of the protesters ignited some sort of incendiary device.Interesting tactic by the police going on. The protesters were lined up against the barrier fence ready for the police to confront them there but the police went around the fence and are now right in amongst the protesters. The result is that the protesters are a bit disorganized as there's no police line to focus on. Pepper spray and arrests happening.
How is this one working out?How are those protests working out?
Deflection noted. How is this one working out?
Protests must be lawful and peaceful. They are not mutually exclusive. Lawful starts with a permit and does not break multiple municipal bylaws. Some minor level of civil disobedience is not uncommon and protesters often chain themselves to something or other or some such thing but this is not civil disobedience, it is an illegal occupation that is infringing on the rights of thousands in Ottawa. They made their point, time to go home before something terrible happens. What, in your mind, constitutes a peaceful protest? Describe it for me
