O'Rourke tells Abbott: "this is on YOU."

Your appeal to emotion here won't work on me. Beto wasn't there to ask questions anyway, but the wrong time to ask policy questions is in the middle of an official update from the Governor in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy such as this...which does NOT happen every few days, "free rein" of "anti-legislation NRA-types" or not.
Ok. So you have no emotions for parents and spouses who will have closed casket funerals for their bullet-riddled loved ones because all that is left of them are assorted body parts and bone. We get it. And yes. These murders happen every day in cities across our country.

If you don't like/support Beto, you're not going to like what he did. No surprise.

His office deserved that consideration. He is the Governor, and this was an official press conference. Doesn't matter who the office-holder may be. Not the time for a stunt such as this.
Would you preach the same decorum to the surviving families and friends of the 27 victims of the Sutherland Springs Church mass shooting, or the 23 murdered in the El Paso mass shooting, or the 10 murdered in the Santa Fe H.S. mass shooting if they confronted Abbott during the public briefing.

Sometimes pushing aside manners to get the heart of the issue is called for. Today was one of those times.

The time is NOT in the middle of a press conference in the immediate aftermath of a horrific tragedy.

A horrific tragedy that Abbott has done absolutely NOTHING to prevent during his time as governor.

In fact, Abbott spent part of the press conference today talking about his lackluster, ineffective response to the school shooting near Houston a few years ago....pretty stupid and bizarre.

Why even bring up the fact that you've done absolutely nothing to make schools safer since the last major school shooting in Texas?

I agree with O’Rourke; there was no better time for his comments than this morning.

His city, El Paso, was a victim of a shooting rampage, and what was done by the Texas legislature and governor for public safety.
Let's see what Texas voters have to say in November.

Let's see what Texas voters have to say in November.
Might be surprising, but we've been watching Texas voters pick some seriously flawed candidates for many years now.
Ann Richards rolling in her grave.

As I've said, your appeal to pathos here won't work on me.

I was thinking about the shocking grocery store increases, gaps in the supply chain, and the price at the pump. But yes, standing up for the right to life even for those most likely to be marginalized--the very old, the very sick, and the very disabled and the unborn--will always be very important as will be respect for the dignity of every one of us.
Just not shooting victims.

Do you seriously think that only people who don't like Beto disapprove of his stunt?!

Alrighty then.

I don't think Beto humiliated Abbott; I think he made a colossal ass out of himself.

Actually, I think you do know Beto humilated Abbott.

Abbott made a bigger ass of himself....talking about how he completely sucked at making schools safer in TX after the Houston shooting a few years ago.

Yes, I am going to say the same: This was not the time or the place.

In case you didn’t notice, the thread has moved from just O’Rourke.
In case you didn't notice, it's literally the thread, now provide your examples or go away in shame.

From the responses here, the parents don't matter.
Its the gun owners that matter.
More kids dead? Meh, as long as I get to stroke my gun, its all okay.
and this is why most of us who support gun rights have zero use for the "solutions" anti gun activists want to foist on us. this sort of irrational hatred of gun owners shows what really motivates the anti gun movement

Indeed they will, and I've already posted on another thread that this will cost him votes.

He could have called a press conference on his own and slammed Abbott to his dirt-eating/leaving-the-scene-of-an-accident heart's content, but he desperately needed the attention and is shameless.

Voters expect candidates who hope to hold the office to at least demonstrate that they understand the gravitas and decorum required of that office. As with all his attention-seeking stunts, Beto has failed again. If I were one of Abbott's campaign strategists, I would already be storyboarding this for political ads to run this coming fall, and my tag would be "Is this who you want to be Governor of Texas?"
I can't believe it - a Republican talking about gravitas and decorum! You are a joke and so is Abbott and so it the Republican Party, which is currently in thrall to a crude, vulgar, "orange carnival barker," as cpwill has described him.
