Opinion: Democrats Keep Falling for Political Fantasies. When Will They Learn?

calling himself a “communist,” referring to all police as “bastards” and calling himself an “antifa supersoldier,” Platner’s paper trail was the stuff of Senator Susan Collins’s dreams. And that was before Platner tried to get ahead of the next hit by revealing the apparent Nazi tattoo on his naked torso.

Platner is a filthy collectivist, that's why he's attracted to both sides of the same coin.

I've read the article and I'm still confused what "political fantasies" the author is talking about. He seems to argue there is a trend in which Dems lose elections by choosing fad outsider candidates rather than establishment picks. But there is not a single "charismatic newcomer" or "viral candidate" name-dropped in the article that has actually "cost [the Dems an] election." The article focuses on Platner, who may not even win his primary, let alone cost Dems an election. Mamdani is about to win in NYC. And Amy McGrath, Beto O'Rourke, and Stacey Abrams were each about as competitive as it gets in their respective states. There is not a single "insider" or established candidated named in the article as a better choice in any of these races. So it reads like a bunch of BS to me.

“Democrats Keep Falling for Political Fantasies. When Will They Learn?”

Never. Believing in fantasies as opposed to reality is a crucial part of being a Leftist.

Mark

The left believes the well vetted main stream news and evidence-supported facts. The left believes in Liberty and Justice for All.

The right believes in money, power and racism. The right believes in WMD - White Male Dominance. The right is lost in propaganda. Often what the right believes at any one particular time contradicts what the right believes at another time. This has happened over and over again. Many of Trump's most loyal supporters originally rejected him as 'too radical' and 'lacking morals, not appropriate for the job.' Many said they would never support him. And then they had to eat crow and become Trump defenders or be thrown out of the party. Most chose to bow down to 'his MAGAsty.' Some stuck to their principles and were forced out of power, such as Liz Cheney.

Republicans are now stuck defending child rapist Trump. If they even convene the House again they have to swear in a Democrat who will vote to release the Epstein Files. Johnson's play is to refuse to convene the House. Republicans can't run a government. They have shut down the government and the House of Representatives. Americans now have taxation without representation because the right believes in bullshit.

Politics is ugly business.

That’s why so few people get involved in it.

🤷‍♀️
It is made ugly on purpose by Republicans because if more people took a serious and logical look at it Republicans could never cling to power using all the dirty tricks they use.

-Refused to conduct hearings on a Democratic Supreme Court Justice Nomination 9 months before an election, then did so 6 weeks prior to an election for a Republican nomination.

-Conduct voter suppression.

-Tried to steal the 2020 election.

-Refused to even look at the evidence as jurors in two impeachment trials.

-Have repeatedly violated their oaths of office by pledging allegiance not to the Constitution, but instead to 'his MAGAsty.'

It’s made ugly on purpose by politicians. On both sides of the aisle.

Opposition research and tearing down your opponent isn’t specific to one party or the other. It’s politics.

Everyone does it - if they think it will help them.

From your local school board candidates all the way to DC.

The conventional wisdom these days isn't that outsiders are costing Dems elections, but that out-of-touch insiders are.

Even Manchin argued that a Dem should run as an independent if they want to win.

There appears to be a 'Tiny Dot flying in space' running short of Copium. Must be a tariff thing.

The one quality that Harris brought to the campaign that Trump clearly could not and would not, is that free and fair elections would continue.

Maybe many Americans prefer a tyrant. After all they cannot exist without some popular support.

True. I do believe it is more pronounced in Republicans who are more likely to "go negative" in political campaigning.

Democrats are more likely to try to stay positive, and more likely to pay a big price for that, and more likely to feel forced to go negative because the voting public is so poorly informed that is often all they respond to. Sadly, much the voting public wants to be entertained not informed.

We humans are all on this planet together. Collectivism is a social good. It is having concern for the benefit of society. We live in societies. When we look out for the society we live in, we are looking for ourselves.

But.... but.... TRRUUUUUMMMP!!! NAZIS!!!!!! HITLER!!!!!!! ICE IS BAD!!!! CRIMINALS NEED PROTECTING!!! MEN CAN HAVE BABIES!!!!!! AAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Trump is a rapist. People with good morals have to have an internal struggle to rationalize supporting a rapist. That is one of the reasons maga is always so mad. They are ashamed of themselves, but won't admit it. When people are in denial of something, and someone else brings it up, it makes the person who is in denial angry because they are really angry at themselves. But they don't admit that, so the anger is redirected at whomever brought up the thing which is being denied.

Kamala Harris would have been a good president. Far better than criminal crooked Trump. If voters really cared about actual law and order the logical thing to do would have been to elect a prosecutor, not a felon.
