It is a market issue, not a fault issue. When you add something to the market in terms of lower labor costs, it effects the labor expectations for everyone. This wasn't an assignment of blame, rather a fact to acknowledge.

See, hiring an illegal at slave wages works because they have no legal recourse. An American isn't going to do the job for the same wage, and so the stipulation for the increased wages is going to be increased work output, which essentially takes you right back to it being damn near the same slave wage it was on and hour for hour basis.

Only making 1.2% above inflation isn't eally going to improve anything for anyone over time, and given that businesses are seeing growth 10 to 20 times higher than that in some sectors, you have to ask why that is the case.

I didn't see her claiming any such things. She's claiming her roof was done and most of the workers couldn't speak English. Did the customer know he used what might be illegal labor, probably not. I'm pretty sure a non English speaking person did not come to her house for the estimate. I'm guessing the business owner is exploiting them, the customer more than likely has no idea of what they are being paid.

There is a certain kind of ugly thought that has never truly left us [or anywhere else in the world as it is a human frailty that it exist and last I checked we are far from perfection in these regards anywhere in the world]. It diminished over time and what was left of it generally had the good sense to hide under the rocks.
