Apple owners take note!

On Tuesday in San Francisco, Apple announced that one of its most anticipated new products, the latest version of OS X, will be available as a free download for old and new computers alike going back to 2007.
OS X Mavericks, the first operating system for Mac computers not named after a big cat, can be downloaded for free starting on Tuesday.

Wow. I've stayed at 10.6 for the last 3 years but $0 is a pretty decent deal. Quite a policy change.

I can't tell if it will be useful for my Imac because all they talk about are Iphones and tablets. Anybody know more?

I believe Apple has an app to check your iMac for compatibility with OS X...

Further reading indicates that since I have 10.6.8 I am eligible. Now, is this FREE today only? I hate being one of the first to adopt new OS releases, I usually wait a few months for version .1 but I'd hate to find out that FREE becomes $99. Any other MAC folks here? Anybody going to try? Can you post your current OS and your experience with Mavericks installing and running?
