olympic ceremony in Paris. … an attack on Chriistianity?

^should give you a clue. Im a Nicene Buddhist for lack of a better term.
Tibetan Buddhist who still "clings" to Xtian concept of salvation - but i do not worship gods
....a little beseech and implore
Uh huh.

REALLY! After all the calls of hateful speech by the LGBTQ with regard to anything that's contrary to their own views... Talk about "persistent victim syndrome".
So, you are a victim here? Of the LGBTQ community?

None of this matters.
No one is going to convince me that a group of artist would not see that what they did looks a HELLUVA lot like the iconic painting, and out of respect and outrage, would change it up so it didn't.
They knew it would create outrage - and is why they did it.
Why do you hate Mad Magazine & National Lampoon so much? 🤡

On that front we somewhat agree. I did not consider the opening ceremonies all that great. Some nice moments, some not so nice, the rain did not change my opinion on it.

Why? This thread is about some taking offense to that segment, why is it unreasonable to ask? Making this about me, and/or the question, seems disingenuous.

I thought the concept was great...not that into most French culture myself but the concept is one the host cities should carry forward.

Because it took place in the city/surroundings, and did show off its culture and history. It took place all over in shorter, less 'over the top' presentations. To me, that was appealing. Lots of people could 'catch' pieces of it.

It didnt take place in a giant stadium where only the privileged could attend. (Yeah, some cities might object to losing out on those ticket sales).

It was really varied and it broke up the introduction of the athletes. Not all cities have a river to use for that but that's also something separate from the "opening ceremonies show" put on and from the entrance of the torch.

how?

i did not watch it

can you post some info about the matter?
Considering that the "Olympics" started well before "Christianity" was even a gleam in the eyes of the founders and first board of directors of "Christianity INC", why would they NOT "honor their roots"?

Society is being affronted by the openly sexual antics of a group of people who seemingly have no clue of either humility not propriety and don't care. However, call them, they, it, whatever --- weirdos and suddenly who becomes victimized.

Sure, if your point is that every satire mag in forever has storied the last super. No problem. 🍰
And there was no malicious intent.
There are probably 10,000 parodies of that iconic painting. Star wars, football players - hell even Charles Schultz did one with the Peanuts.
No problem.
But this is different, the intent is clear. They did it to incite anti-Christian values... anyone other than a brain dead borg automaton knows this 100%.
It is laughably stupid and obtuse to claim otherwise.
That is the problem.
If the Olympics had an opening ceremony that was an obvious attempt to incite anti-gay message - I would not like that either.
As one person said - 'THIS IS NOT HOW TO TEAR DOWN BARRIERS, THIS IS HOW YOU BUILD THEM"

So, if the french have lots of freedoms why was not the President of France, Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron and his Cabinet parodied as drag queens. One has the right to believe or not believe, but one should be considerate of the beliefs of others without ridicule and mockery. And the Olympics isn't the place for mockery nor insults. It is what I would consider a FAMILY venue where embarrassment should not be the theme of the day.

Yes, civilians die in war, but context matters. If the warring forces are targeting or being reckless with civilian lives then those are war crimes. And there is plenty of evidence of the IDF being reckless at best with civilian lives.

Where was I comparing the two sides? If you're comparing your side's morality to that of terrorists then you've lost the argument.

But again, this is a debate for another thread. Take it there.
If you’d like a better comparison, can you name a time when the WWII Allies warned civilians?

BUT BUT BUT - it was not about the Last Supper???
If it wasn't that why would the creator apologize???

EXACTLY! They knew what they were doing. They just didn't imagine that the rest of the world even knew what the LAST SUPPER was. I'm sure that many of the french people were embarrassed as well.

When you have no argument, increase the font size.

I don’t think there’s any question that a depiction of the Last Supper using drag queens was an attempt to offend Christians. It was, of course, a rather lazy artistic statement as, for the most post, modern Christians are quite tolerant. They may complain a bit, but that’s as far as it will go.
And if they do complain too much they're hypocrites. We know the drill.
Now, if the artistic directors of the opening ceremonies really wanted to be edgy, they would have reenacted Mohamed’s Last Sermon using drag queens. Now that would have made “a statement.”
That wouldn't be edgy it would be suicidal. They're only brave enough to disparage Christians.
