These lines have been repeated parrot-like again and again by pious people for ages.
But there is no sense in them.
What do you base your beliefs, as a Christian, on if not what the Bible teaches?

What do you base your beliefs, as a Christian, on if not what the Bible teaches?

A bit difficult to build a base when there are so many contradictions to be found in the words.

Here's an example of one Christian who believes Old Testament laws should still be valid

The video is an hour-long but in it, one may find the following:
" if you think this LGBTQ AARP MICKEY, you know, alphabet community is just about being with the same sex, then your head is in the sand like an ostrich. And you know what? It's offensive, obviously, to preach Leviticus 20:15, which says that if a man lies with mankind as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination and should surely be put to their death, their blood should be upon them. You know what? That's not in season today, but it needs to be preached. Especially when we get done with Queer Pride Month."

The preacher believes - no thinking allowed - that no person who celebrates Pride Month, or accepts same-sex marriages, or supports laws against anti-gay bias in businesses should not be seen as a Christian - at least not the type of person who calls themselves Christian because this man doesn't think most are really TRUE Christians.

If anyone finds contradictions, then they are cherry-picking, which no doubt leads to misunderstandings...I don't have to watch a video to know what the Bible says about such things...

But isn't the OT also the Word of God? Can you simply cast it aside?

You got me!

Oh wait. no.

Most Christians are Biblical literalists.

If I were a Biblical literalist, a fundamentalist as they're often called, you'd be right.

Absolutely terrible!

A hope some Christians object to these words.
@Tosca - are you happy with those words?

No contradictions? Of course, believers can always create some excuse for those statements which certainly appear to be contradictions.

Then there are those skeptics who like to point out passages that certainly appear to contradict each other

492 Contradictions from the Skeptics Annotated Bible

Just in case you don't care to peruse the biblical list, the website also offers Contradictions in the Quran and Contradictions in the Book of Mormon

Too lazy to point out one...got it...

There are rules that were meant only for Jews - because they were chosen to be a holy nation. Examples are their dietary rules.

But some rules no longer apply after the death and Resurrection of the Messiah - like, offering sacrificial animals to atone for sins.
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. Also, what Lutherf had explained above concerning laws.
First, Jesus was not the Messiah. The Messiah will rebuild the Temple and establish the Jewish homeland and Jesus did neither. Also, the Messiah will be a mortal man.
Second, you don't get to cherry pick. Either all the laws of Moses apply or none do.

The first was written by god, the second by man.

Some Christians seem to have the strange idea that all those rules in the Old Testament are also binding for Christians. So let's have a poll on that topic.

I have never heard of a Christian believing it is a sin to eat meat from livestock animals that do not have split hooves and chew cud. Even Christians who celebrate Passover don't care about including porcine and bovine meat in their diets.

However, some Christians, called Seventh Day Adventists, do make a big deal about honoring the Sabbath from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, matching the Jewish tradition spelled out in Genesis.

When you present one, in your own words, perhaps I will...

Probably not - but if you do respond, I do think it will be quotes from the JW library

Who created the universe?

YHWH, El, Elohim, Adonai, G-d, The Lord, Jehovah?
Isaiah 44:24

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
who formed you in the womb:
I am the Lord, who made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens,
who by myself spread out the earth.

OR
Jesus - ?
Colossians 1:15
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 for by him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Only through Jehovah God's infinite power, was anything created...meaning everything Jesus does is because/through the power that Jehovah God gives to him...El, Elohim, Adonai, G-d, The Lord are all titles...God YHWH is pronounced Jehovah in English...but you already know that...

Millions disagree with your pronunciation of Yahweh

Considering that no one can be sure of the exact pronunciation of God’s name, I'll take my chances...He didn't tell us to make His name known for no good reason...btw, you can clean the egg off your face now...

So let's have a poll on that topic.

Some are, some aren't. Which is which is determined arbitrarily by Christians based on what's most convenient for them at a given time.

Do you seriously think that Christians are not allowed to eat pork?

Some Christians probably do. The ones that don't choose arbitrarily not to follow that rule.
