First of all let's take a moment to appreciate that there's a dude out there with Tarzan as his legal name.

Afterwards, is this not fascinating? Republicans double down on Trump, even while he cuts programs they like. Red states receive more federal funding, are more dependent on the Federal government, than Blue states. Look at Food Stamps, Red states are higher recipients of federal funds for Food Stamps, because of the hits that rural America has taken in the last 20-30 years. Conservatives, either you willingly vote against your own interests or, you hate the Democrats so badly, that you refuse to look at the behavior and voting records of your candidates. If you elect Republicans they will cut programs that your community depends on. What will it take to deprogram the GOP propaganda? This article shows that people would rather let their communities suffer, than admit that they were wrong about politics. God*** Heritage foundation and FOX news.

I'm not sure what to make of the article.

Our Republican controlled State Government has been steadily cutting everything from medicaid to VA funding. Education has had historic cuts as has the dept of corrections. Not sure what the folks quoted were/are thinking. Trump was pretty clear he was cutting pretty much everything but the military and that wall.

Guess it proves the old conservative saying- "Cut the OTHER guy's programs- leave MINE alone!!!!" eace
 

1. FoxNews, Infowars, and other forms of right-wing propaganda would have to go off the air. Which is not going to happen any time soon.
2. Religion. This one doesn't get talked about much. But Oklahoma is one of the most religious states in America, and the nature of its religion is going to impede progress for the forseeable future.
 

Maybe they're not voting their pocketbooks.

I think they'd feel a bit differently if those cuts actually go through.

More importantly though, as the article notes:
• It's far too early for people to really feel the effects or change their minds
• People may be more sensitive to changes in jobs
• Some people may already see that it won't be easy to get rid of benefits

Otherwise, yes, some of us know about the Great Paradox. A lot of it is driven by factors like a lack of agency, the rise of identity politics, tribalism, and for some people the will to sacrifice certain benefits in exchange for other goals.
 

People place faith in their elected officials because of a perceived superiority of understanding. They hold onto their faith despite evidence that they're getting screwed, because it's easier to invent a narrative than discard an ideology. If you say, "Look, despite Trump saying he wasn't going to cut Medicaid, despite him saying he was going to fight for you in DC because you were forgotten. When push came to shove on healthcare, he cut Medicaid, and then folded when things got hairy." Rather than entertain the notion that they were lied to, a narrative of Trump's superior intellect, bargaining ability, etc. dominates the conversation. that allows people to rationalize them not getting what they want policy wise..

If the programs aren't everyone's programs then they shouldn't exist. As we should all know, most government programs shouldn't exist.

so what you are saying since the coast guard is coastal and does help inland areas lets axe it?
 
Actually, during the campaign, Trump is on record as saying he will 'leave Medicare and Social Security alone' and make health care 'terrific.' The GOP plans are double-crosses to that pledge. On the wall, he said 'Mexico will pay for it,' which isn't true either.

Paul Krugman had a piece last week that summed it up:
 

Did Trump pledge to not touch medicaid or medicare? They are different and Oklahoma refused to expand medicaid to help cover the working poor.

Oh and Trump's minions were walking the 'healthcare terrific' promise back during confirmation hearings so it wasn't just Congress double crossing... eace
 

Trump voters are not concerned with policy. If they were, they would not have voted for the candidate who had none.

Trump voters want to have their emotions validated, and Trump validates their hatred and fear of immigrants, Muslims, job losses, gays, abortion, etc.
 
Then I hope they feel good when Trump and the GOP emasculate their health care coverage; dirty their water and air and do nothing to bring back those jobs they promised.
