Damn and I thought Alabama was a nutty place to live sometimes, seems OK is really bonkers.

Senate Bill 1188

SB 1188 would establish "Charlie Kirk Speech Day" in Oklahoma. The day would take place on October 14, and lawmakers say it would "include statewide programs and discussions promoting open dialogue and the protection of Constitutional rights.

Senate Bill 1187

In a release, Jett said SB 1187 would make sure that all institutions of higher education within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education designate and develop an area on its campus and designate it as the "Charlie Kirk Free Speech Plaza.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 13

This legislation would recognize Kirk as a martyr for truth, faith and free speech. Jett said SCR 13 would also honor Kirks "unwavering courage in defending American liberties; and declares the commitment to perpetuate his legacy of courage and faith."

I mean, I get simple resolutions condemning his death, maybe even recognizing him in some ways, but to force each school in the state college system to have a square with a Charlie Kirk statue?

Nuts.

This is the type of of useless shit that gets MAGA cult members turn on

James Madison Day would be more fitting.

Let's play a game where we count all the differences between the identities/politics of the parties involved in the following events and MAGA's reaction to those events.

On the one hand....

- Assassination of Democratic lawmaker Hortman and her husband
- Attempted assasination of Josh Shapiro
- Series shootings at the homes of four Democratic lawmakers,
- Attempted assassination of Paul Pelosi
- Invasion of the capitol with intent to murder Pence and Democrats, trying to give Trump excuse to declare martial law or otherwise install him as dictator
- Murder of son of Obama-appointed Judge Esther Salas
- Conspiracy to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer and do god knows what to her
- Pipe bombs sent to homes of Obama, Biden, Clinton, and other top Democrats
- Murder of left-wing activist Heather Heyer by way of car driven into a crowd of counter-protesters in the Charlottesville "very fine people" rally.

....and on the other hand....
- Assassination of Charlie Kirk.

I dunno. It's almost like political identity is the only thing that mattered to MAGA, while tragic political violence is what mattered to everyone else.

They are trying something like that in a school district here:

"LYNDEN, Wash. — The Lynden School Board voted Thursday to table a proposal that would have created an annual “Charlie Kirk Day,” after concerns from both community members and board leadership." link

Supposedly, the reason for the remembrance was:

"The unsigned draft resolution, written by members of the Lynden School Board, was discussed during Thursday’s board meeting. It affirmed the district’s opposition to political violence and its support for student debate clubs. Kirk was known for holding public forums concerning political issues." link

Interestingly enough, Lynden, WA is the town that "Footloose" was based on.

They are tabling it for more discussion and saying they'll remove Kirk's name and re-focus more on the open debate and non-violence aspects.

Oklahoma?

I stopped caring.

I would only support this ("Charlie Kirk Speech Day") legislation if it were put to the Oklahoma voters as a ballot initiative.

This kind of legislation really needs voter approval.

What about the other two measures?

All institutions must have a monument to the party’s martyr Horst Wessel Charlie Kirk.

As I've said before, righties are smug that Kirk got killed.

From what's been released so far, the shooter was driven away from MAGA extremism when he got out into the world and met more people realized that the hate, intolerance, dehumanization of MAGA was wrong. Ditto for fundie Christian extremism altho I dont know if he was expose to that in his Mormon home to any degree. I'm sure it wasnt "approved of."

Maybe MAGA's extremism is starting to go too far? (To me, it's a rhetorical question)

This is seriously mental shit.

Not that Trumplican politicians are proposing this insanity, it's perfectly in keeping with their agenda to soullessly milk Kirk's murder for every drop of political capital they can.

What is mental is how many MAGAs, manly MAGAs, I mean real tough hombres, will respond with tears in their eyes. "Mr. Trump, best president ever, thank you sir."
