OK, I am a little confused over this Fiscal cliff

They are in the first round of talks today.

Yea, did you hear the demands of the clown in chief?

Raise taxes, no spending cuts...eliminate the across the board cuts from the last debt ceiling deal, and he wants the ability to raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval.

Yea....what negotiations they were. Im surprised they didnt roll on the floor laughing at that proposal.

There are two major groups of people who make nothing and get large amounts of cash for it. Financial institutions and politicians and both go hand and hand raping us.

Obsess much?

Can't answer the question so you change the question.

I guess I could borrow some money from someone else or maybe print some new cash for myself. Crime is very profitable too that is we have Democrats.

Can't answer mine so you changed the question.

Are you getting interest on the loan? If not you made a stupid loan. If so, you made money.

Now what does that have to do with securities in the SS trust fund.

You are the one that posted a diversionary question rather than answering the question asked.
Answer my question then I will answer yours.

Does your mommy know you are on the computer?

We haven't heard anything from the GOP on their proposal. Are they keeping it a secret?

The GOP proposal is and always has been the budget put forth by the House Budget Committee. And it actually is in legislative language and passed by the House.

Then you havent been reading the news.

GOP senator offers plan to avert ‘fiscal cliff’: spending cuts, entitlement curbs, tax hikes - The Washington Post

Not that their plan is great....but it certainly is better than all tax hikes, no spending cuts, bypass of Congressional authority on debt ceiling

In other words th Repugs are just opposing as usual and have no intention of trying to reach any kind of agreement. What a surprise!!

When the agreement they are being given is nothing but taxes and more spending with no cuts I certainly hope not. As long as they oppose these redicuolous terms they will have my vote. In fact I seriously doubt a better deal can be made than the fiscal cliff we are headed over. I only hope they not only hold out in opposition to anything the Democrats come up with that doesn't involve massive cuts but I hope they hold out against moving the fiscal cliff time line as well as raising the debt limit.

Its what they were elected to do lol

Grid lock is good. The less congress does the better off we all are.

Its Obama who wont compromise.

There are no Social Security reserves. The trust has been converted into treasuries which are nothing more than claims against future taxes.

Well they could have just tossed all that money into a bank vault, then printed up some more to replace all that money that we would have been taking out of the economy. Would that have been wiser?

You think there is a vault with $3T sitting in it just waiting to pay off those guarantees?

If so why were they not used for TARP?

The gov can print up a vault of money any time it needs to. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that we don't already have a few secret vaults full of money, as a national security measure.

Actually they did both spent all the money and printed more.

If I have $1000 and I let someone else borrow that $1000, how much money do I have now?

Take your time.

According to many posters the total economy would have $2,000. I've argued against that type of double counting of the same money many times.

Agreed, a congress that does nothing is the best congress we can have. A REAL fiscal cliff would be a Democrat super majority.

Or it could have been invested in the private sector or, better yet, bullion.

Would you really want our government picking winners and losers in the private sector? that may be a recipe for disaster.

Precious metals, hmm, well maybe, haven't thought about that. It is a store of long term value, offhand I don't see why not. that might actually be your first good idea.

The government picking winners and losers is the Obama adminsitration all day.

Precious metals, hmmmmm, you mean like a gold standard?

Sure, and it hasn't worked out so well. That was actually the biggest part of the reason that I didn't vote for O'.

Precious metals, hmmmmm, you mean like a gold standard?

Nope, not at all. But instead of storing the ss reserves in a bank vault (which would be pointless), or borrowing it to fund other spending, or gambling it away in the stock market, the gov could store it in the form of metals. Of course there would be risk involved with that also.
