It would seem to me that restraint of trade & price fixing by the major oil companies, in collusion with their buddy in the White House (Bush) were the major factors sending this country into a near depression. With gasoline & home heating fuels eating up most of our income, there was simply no money left to pay for other things like homes, cars or consumer goods.
Look at the obscene profits of Exxon-Mobil & tell me why we shouldn't nationalize the oil companies & throw their CEO's in prison, along with Bush & Cheney for their assistance.

Do you have any idea of the scope of the economic crisis as compared to the amount of money spent on gas?

Look at the obscene profits of Exxon-Mobil & tell me why we shouldn't nationalize the oil companies & throw their CEO's in prison, along with Bush & Cheney for their assistance.

Because we should be celebrating companies that succeed, thus employing Americans and filling the Treasury's coffers?

Or would you prefer that Exxon was more like GM, falling apart and sucking up billions of government dollars?

There is a lot of sharing to be done when it comes to the blame game concerning our current economic situation.
For quite a few years I have watched relatives and friends spend money like there was no tomorrow, and no piper to pay. Credit card debt went sky high and then back to zero when they filed bankruptcy. After filing, they went back to their old spending habits, but at higher interest rates.
Buying more car than they need, more house than they can afford, and Best Buy was their best friend, according to all the electronic gadgets they have.
Spending beyond their means, above what is sufficient for their needs, wanting everything that is advertised on the television, keeping up with the Jones family (near bankruptcy themselves), and in general just being stupid.
As long as there is money to be made off stupidity, who can blame the business world for taking advantage of the situation?
There has been a tremendous transfer of wealth from the stupid to the not-so stupid and beyond to the truly smart.
And given a decade of time, all the truly stupid will repeat the process.
Someday, these people will have to retire, and THEN we will have the poorest generation of retirees ever. But not to worry, our grandchildren will just be taxed to cover expenses, and their grandchildren will be virtual slaves to the IRS trying to pay off the borrowed debt.

You know, oil is on its way back up, yet all the Republicans are gone.

Good GOD, how is this "moderate"? :doh

Why, these days, is success always supposedly the result of eeeeevillllll? Why does any successful person or group always have to be demonized? Why does anyone who does well for himself -- or even on behalf of others -- have to be torn to shreds merely because they have the temerity to BE successful?

Do some research and you'll find there is a TON of clear and present corruption in our whole political system....
