Governor Kim Reynolds (R) “is looking to emulate the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state government. At Monday’s event, she signed an executive order to create an Iowa DOGE Task Force, headed by Emily Schmitt, Chief Administrative Officer & General Counsel at Sukup Manufacturing Co.

It’s no wonder that crap like this spreads. To be run by a non-elected, big business right winger, and a part of the state’s religious right. First, the governor pushed through that “school choice” boondoggle of taking millions of dollars of state taxpayer money to subsidize parents of kids in private and parochial schools, and now this DOGE garbage.

The Republicans of Iowa are out of control.

What's your problem? It's a good idea to use private sector resources to audit government agencies and suggest ways to improve efficiency.

Fundamentally this is correct. What is missing from that statement though is that the auditors have to be politically neutral and have no private agenda that might influence the outcome of their audits. Having well qualified outsiders come and periodically go through govt spending, and ask the awkward questions, is something that should happen quite regularly. But they must be completely ambivalent on policy or the risk is that these unelected people will influence policy via the way they conduct their audits.. This doesn't sound like a case where the auditors will meet that ambivalence requirement.

Does fraud, waste and abuse have a political leaning? I'm pretty sure both sides do it. Elon and Trump is pretty good at transparency. That's the key to this if you want to avoid bias.

When the Governor and the Attorney General are both Republicans, and there are Republican super majorities in both the State House of Representatives and State Senate, well yeah, there’s a high probability that there’s no “both sides” to any fraud, waste, and abuses. By the way, the two U.S. Senators and the four U.S. Representatives are Republicans, too, and they sure as heck aren’t going to check any of their Republican friends in the state.

Elections have consequences.

Looking to follow the Presidents example and eliminate waste and fraud seems good to me. Not quite sure why the left doesn't want any of this found or made public.

Republicans everywhere. This is just straight up hollowing out the government for the benefit of private entities.

Probably the majority of people don't see what's happening right now, and they finally get it, the damage will be extensive. It'll take years to recover from Republican misrule.

Why do you have a problem with an elected state government and that state's elected senators which reflects their electorate?

Umm, because Democrats know that they are the ones with their hands in the cookie jar? (Just a guess)

It's always easy to spend other people's money.

Doubly so when you contribute nothing to the tax base.

Cool, another teabilly state to not visit. Not that I was going anyway. Either way, I'm trying to avoid giving far right wing states that I don't live in my business. They can **** right off and send a postcard when they get there.

lol... Iowa's government doesn't seem to do much in the first place. Almost all of the state budget is education, Medicaid and court system.

This is just typical BS, set up to snow the rubes.

That name is just chef's kiss.

But let's check it out:

So just like Trump, Reynold's wants people with zero experience in finding "waste, fraud, and abuse" to do the work.

**** experts. I need to get a colonoscopy soon, so I'm just going to get my local plumber to do it.

Excellent, I hope Iowa finds lots of waste and uses it as justification to tear down its own government.

The same problem you would have if your state was chock full of Democrats running the whole show for years. Think they would be the root cause of fraud, waste, and inefficiency in state government? Doubt you would sit silent.

Besides, this Republican governor has already been in trouble before, like when the State Auditor found she had taken nearly $450,000.00 of Covid money to pay 21 people on her staff.

Dodge and diversion from the question posed.

Yet more dodge and diversion.
