Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth

Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth - WSJ.com

It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that the Obama administration has advanced.

Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date.

Overall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president's performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration. Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative.

What say you on this?

Are you an Obama supporter who is becoming disalusioned? If so, please explain why..

While I did vote for Obama, I went into it expecting to be disappointed. I mean, after all, he is a politician. There have been things that he's done that I don't agree with. I will reserve my judgment on how good of a President he is when his administration is over. It's still quite early in the game and he was, after all, left with quite a mess when he first got in. I'm not saying this to excuse anything, but I think it's bound to happen that he will disappoint some of his supporters. I think that anyone going into this thinking that it was all going to be unicorns and lollipops were seriously kidding themselves.

As for the fact that you of all people posted a poll, I thought I'd take an amusing little trip down memory lane. No, it isn't an attack. I just thought it was rather ironic.

Oh indeed. Polls are for strippers. I found this one quite humorous though....

I have never been polled, and If I was I'd prolly just hang up.

I think all the polls will tighten up as they have to appear accurate towards the end... ;)

Polls are for strippers.

Polls are for strippers.

Polls are for strippers.

Polls are for strippers. This is why I made no commentary on it and simply asked those who do put stock in polls for thier opinion.

Please understand what Irony is before so as to not look foolish....

Though I appreciate the effort of you searching all my posts so you can score "forum points"... Trust me, I wouldn't waste the same on you. :rofl

Oh no here comes the crying now.

Wow, what a surprise! You took it as an attack.

It was just a humorous jab. Lighten up.

Or are you going to continue the "my penis is bigger than yours!" caliber of insults that you normally resort to? I see you are already starting to with the crying comment.

Lets see, you troll my posts with off topic nonsense, and I should lighten up? Please.

You tell me to lighten up then you cackle this typical nonsense of yours?

And was I wrong? Oh look no, no sir, I was not wrong, You are no longer talking about the topic and instead crying and bitching about me in one post.

your puerile antics are transparent. I made no commentary here on the legitimacy of polls, and made no comment on Obama himself, yet here you are with your typical tantrums over my posts.

If you do not like the topic, go play eleswhere.

Well, now I know that one can't even try to joke with you because you are obviously too sensitive and want to turn everything into a bull**** fight. I'm sure I will get gigged for this, but seriously: Go **** yourself.

And actually, I'll just save you the trouble and put you on ignore so I don't have to see your inane posts.

Re your actual on topic commentary. I find your sentiments a sad statment of politics today. I chose to exhibit integrity by not voting for POTUS this time around. I do find it funny how you will "reserve judgment" until his presidency is over.

Did you afford the previous administration the same courtesy?

So you bait and troll most of my threads, and try to pick fights with me, then you wonder why I don't see your humor?

Please. I think you are smarter than that.

I don't recall ever starting a fight with you. However I see that you have indeed started numerous fights with me. But now I am supposed to see you are joking around with me?

Nice. Anyway. Thanks for telling me to go "**** myself", I am kinda hot. so I could see how I would want to. I am damn good looking.....

Promises, promises...... Any takers on how long this will last?

Sadly, most of the simpering simian's supporters believe that in an instant he would right all the wrongs of the world--how else to view the imbecilic proposition that many of his benighted and befuddled followers have advanced wherein he has "restored integrity" to the Oval Office merely by occupying it?

Of course they will be disappointed. Waking up to the real world where people still have to take care of themselves and don't get free handouts ad infinitum is bound to be heartbreaking.

The bottom line is that campaign promises are made to get one elected. That's it. I just wish people were more cynical and realistic about this. Then they wouldn't be as disappointed when the promises don't happen.

That's an interesting theory of politics--elect the best and most creative liar.

Perhaps a wee bit less cynicism, a wee bit more skepticism, and a dollop of the discipline necessary to hold people accountable for their promises might do more to produce good governance.

Looking at historical approval ratings, a president is very lucky to stay even from their election point. Presidential approval ratings trend downwards - that's just what happens. It is much easier for a president to lose support than to gain it, and Obama is no exception

That is a rather negative way to look at it, but that's kind of how I've always seen it. I would never completely trust a politician no matter how elegant they speak or how wonderful they seem to be. I actually wasn't even going to vote. It was a last minute decision.

First of all, thank you for posting real data. Secondly, your assertions are all too true. Regardless of what a President accomplishes, people lose the enchantment they have for the president after the real work begins and real decisions must be made.

I was critical of Bush and intend to be the same of Obama. Our leaders should be scrutinized and held-up to the highest expectations, anything less is not the workings of a real democracy.

The last three polls that came out had Obama's approvals at 72, 69 and 65.

Nice try!

His numbers are not as solid as you wish.. hell, he's below Bush at the same time in his first term.
