Many democrats feels jilted by the president because he has not done enough to push democratic agenda forward. The President claims congress (the house) is in the way ...and the public knows this only too well.

With time winding down on his presidency shouldn't Obama whenever he can use this power to get things done?

This is what's agonizing to many democrats, the elected officials time and time again ....when they have the power.... run out the clock with too many bullets in the chamber!

If Obama needs a measure for how many is adequate, he should use his predecessor (Bush) as the standard.

Bush had 291 over his presidency, Obama only has 180, and is way behind this standard.

He's about to use this power again (below), but with time winding down, he have to start seeing this method exclusively as the way to govern.

Obama to take executive steps on student loans

EXECUTIVE ORDERS

Carter = 320
Reagan = 381
GW Bush = 166 ( on pace for over 300 had he had a 2nd term)
Clinton = 364
Bush = 291
Obama = 180

What is the break down after the second midterm elections and the loser is a lame duck? We all know they rarely pardon people until after the last election so as not to "offend" the electorate. The same I'm guessing holds true for EOs.

It's not so much the number of executive orders, but rather the scope. For example, Judge Mulkasey pointed out today that one executive order could legally release all prisoners from U.S. jails, but that Mulkasey thought it would be an impeachable offense. Releasing the five top leaders of our enemy violated the law, but it also severely hurt the country and put many more American lives at risk. What if those five end up with an Iranian or Pakistani nuke and use it on us? So, you see one ill-conceived executive order can trump thousands of executive orders made by more responsible presidents.
