Does anyone but me remember that line from Conservatives? How awful Obamacare would be, rationing Healthcare? How people would be denied care because of some whim of a bureaucrat? Anyone but me? Why do I bring this up now? Because Trump is rationing Health Care for Medicare folks.

The federal government plans to hire private companies to use artificial intelligence to determine whether patients would be covered for some procedures, like certain spine surgeries or steroid injections. Similar algorithms used by insurers have been the subject of several high-profile lawsuits, which have asserted that the technology allowed the companies to swiftly deny large batches of claims and cut patients off from care in rehabilitation facilities.

The A.I. companies selected to oversee the program would have a strong financial incentive to deny claims. Medicare plans to pay them a share of the savings generated from rejections.

The government said the A.I. screening tool would focus narrowly on about a dozen procedures, which it has determined to be costly and of little to no benefit to patients. Those procedures include devices for incontinence control, cervical fusion, certain steroid injections for pain management, select nerve stimulators and the diagnosis and treatment of impotence.

When they tried to blame it on Obama, it was the worst thing ever. It was awful. It was Communism. Now, look where we are. Trump is doing it, not the Damned Democrats. Not the evil Leftists. Not those Socialist Deep State Swine. They are literally planning on paying the companies that deny medical care for people. You get a bonus for screwing people out of medical care. This isn't draining the Swamp. Trump never intended to drain the swamp. He always wanted absolute control over the billions of dollars the swamp controlled. No Laws, no constitution would prevent him from seizing such power.

Stop blaming the left Fanboys. It's your side that is doing everything evil in this Nation.[/I]

The solution is to privatize medicare. We need to be REAL americans with our healthcare. Not these nanny state lib european losers who cant even pay their own military

Finding fraud using large amounts of data is a perfect application for AI. Medicare has billions of claims and lots of fraud.

You should have read the link, or the part I quoted. They're paying the AI Companies to deny preauthorization claims. So if your Mother needs a procedure, it's up to AI to decide if she gets it. Say buh bye to Mommy.

I was told there would be no death panels...

Now you're telling me it's been happening for years!?

I like our system where everyone knows upfront exactly what is covered and what isn't. There is rarely a question about a medical procedure being covered unless it's part of a trial. There are some limitations on how often some diagnostic like a mamo are paid for within a set time but basically If your doctor recommends it and it's not cosmetic in nature, it's covered. I would hate to have an issue of whether it's paid for or not thrown into the mix when facing a health issue.

When they took Palin's parents and her baby with Down Syndrome and made them stand in front of a death panel so the bureaucrats could decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they were worthy of health care, I said "whoa!"

Yes, we've always rationed care and we've always had death panels. They're just private companies and they literally profit from your death.

You are kind of, sort of, right. If there is a procedure that four doctors in the world can perform. Each Doctor can only see three surgeries a week, then getting on the schedule if you have that condition is going to be tough. So in that way, the care is rationed. Before you even get the Insurance Company involved.

Secondly, is the allocation of organs. Even if your Doctor is able to perform the surgery to give you a new Liver, or Kidney. Getting one means filling out forms to get on the list. If you are a heavy smoker who ignored your diabetes and now your body is shutting down the odds of you getting that organ is rather low. If you are healthy and care for yourself the odds are higher. Because the people making the decision on where you go on the list, or even if you make it on the list, are trying to make sure the organ is used wisely.

I'm a smoker so if I needed a heart transplant I wouldn't even bother to request that I be put on the list. I know they're going to reject me.

So if you have ten thousand people who need a Heart, and you have a hundred hearts, someone isn't getting it.

You mean DOGE didn't find this?

No, I am exactly right. People die when there is treatment available because they don't have enough money. And sometimes, these are decisions intentionally made by an insurance company who is supposed to be covering the treatment, but chooses not to because it is the more profitable decision.

Rationed care is the natural result of government provided healthcare. Ask Canada. Think of the rationing that would be happening if we were on single payer.

How specifically is health care in Canadan rationed? Be sure to use the term properly.

Use teh google. Just because the government doesn't call it rationing, its being rationed.

AI Overview

Canada's publicly funded healthcare system experiences "rationing" primarily through long wait times for specialized treatments and procedures, a form of indirect "macro-rationing" that arises from financial constraints and the need to manage resources for the entire system. This differs from the "micro-rationing" seen in the US, which involves direct choices about which specific services to cover for individual patients. While Canada aims for universal access, the limited funding available for certain services forces difficult decisions about resource allocation, leading to waiting lists for surgeries, tests, and specialist appointments.

How Rationing Occurs in Canada
  • Waiting Lists:
The most visible form of rationing is the extended wait times for non-emergency surgeries, diagnostic imaging (like MRIs and CT scans), and specialist consultations.

  • Financial Constraints:
The fundamental challenge of providing unlimited medical care within a publicly funded system leads to "financial constraints" that limit the scope of services available.

  • Resource Management:
Governments and healthcare providers make macro-level decisions to control costs by limiting the number of available services or equipment, influencing how resources are used across the entire system.

  • Prioritization:
When resources are scarce, providers must prioritize who receives care first. This leads to patients with more severe conditions receiving care while others with less urgent needs must wait.
Impact of Rationing
  • Increased Wait Times:
Patients can wait for extended periods, sometimes months or even years, for procedures like hip or knee replacements, potentially worsening their conditions and causing chronic pain.

  • Disparities in Access:
Despite the goal of universal access, financial constraints indirectly limit access to certain services for some patients.

  • Economic Burden:
Patients and society bear the burden of these wait times, which can lead to reduced productivity and a lower quality of life.

Rationed health care exists in the US,

It is just that the persons ability to pay is the deciding factor.

No money no insurance no health care beyond an emergency

Yes there can be, and are wait times for non life threatening procedures. However, the procedures are not rationed. Everyone gets treatment with very few restrictions. Rationing means setting limits on who gets what and how often. It's also important to know wait times only apply to non life threatening conditions. You may have to wait for that hip but not a stent.

Call it whatever you want. Abortion is "reproductive care", racial discrimination is "affirmative action". Whatever doublespeak floats your boat.
