So then there is no mandate to purchase insurance. It's just a tax.
You have now been reduced to making stuff up and pretending I said it.
Well played, Ma'am!! :lamo
No one is required to purchase health insurance.
People are allowed to exercise personal irresponsibility and go without it.
I didn't say you said it.
A mandate by definition is an official order to do something. It's an official order to avoid paying a tax. Pretty simple.
This is a tax issue, not a healthcare or insurance issue.
"...The adoption of an individual mandate as a central component of Barack Obama's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2009."

If you still don't understand what the individual mandate refers to, or how it works, then I don't know how to help you

Do you know what the word "mandate" means? It doesn't mean "optional".
So either there is a mandate to buy insurance, or there isn't.
Could you remind me Conservative, who passed the Medicare Part "D" act that requires the Federal government to buy prescription drugs at full price and is paid using taxpayers money?Eventually you are going to come to the reality that you are in the minority and thus the losing side of this issue. This country wasn't built on your vision of a large central govt. providing you with personal responsibility issues. You and I have absolutely nothing in common as my vision rests on personal responsibility, neighbor helping neighbor, and most social issues resting at the state and local level. Yours is one that supports a Federal bureaucracy that has generated a 17.3 trillion dollar debt and rising.
I also know what the word "patriot" means, but I still don't support the PATRIOT Act.
I also believe in religious freedom, but I don't support the RELIGIOUS FREEDOM RESTORATION Act
But you keep believing that the language politicians use to describe things are meant to be interpreted literally. it doesn't make your argument appear naive at all.
The 'mandate' has changed dozens of time since passed by Congress, and never with the permission of Congress.
We aren't talking about the Patriot Act.
Is the law written to include a mandate that most Americans must buy healthcare insurance - yes or no?
Not to mention, by its very definition, the insurace mandate requires that you either buy third party insurance, or you make a payment to the IRS for purposes of funding the insurance pool.
Yet there are many on here who are trying to claim that nobody is being forced to do anything.
The "individual mandate" applies to all americans. It does not force anyone to buy health insurance.
Correct. No one is being forced to do anything by the individual mandate.
So then option 3 is "do nothing"?
That is something for everyone to decide for themselves.
I am all about the freedom.
Right. You have the freedom to buy from an insurance company, or you have the freedom to pay the tax that's imposed on you for not buying a third party's goods or services, with that tax going into the purchase of the third party's goods or service.
I missed the option of exercising your freedom to not buy something from a third party and not having your taxes raised when you exercise that freedom.
I wonder when the government is going to mandate that we have to buy hybrid cars, non-disposable diapers, milk from John Smith's dairy, and blue sweaters, and have our taxes raised when we don't.
So then option 3 is "do nothing"?
Well they aren't being forced to break the law.....that's their choice. But they will be penalized for something they weren't forced to do.....huh? :lamo
People now have two freedoms where they used to have only one.
You can't always get what you want.
And I wonder when my dog will start farting rainbows and unicorns, but I'm not holding my breath

In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope? John Kerry calls on us to hope. John Edwards calls on us to hope. I'm not talking about blind optimism here — the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just don't talk about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. No, I'm talking about something more substantial. It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; the hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores; the hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta; the hope of a millworker's son who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too. Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope!
"Our government shouldn’t make promises we cannot keep — but we must keep the promises we’ve already made". - Same guy.
People now have two freedoms where they used to have only one.
There are two freedoms? I'd thought there was just one.
Well perhaps we should try for three freedoms. Maybe even more!
Why only three? I want 57 freedoms.
