Obama amnesty, Obamacare clash: Businesses have $3,000 incentive to hire illegals - Washington TimesUnder the president’s new amnesty, businesses will have a $3,000-per-employee incentive to hire illegal immigrants over native-born workers because of a quirk of Obamacare.
President Obama’s temporary amnesty, which lasts three years, declares up to 5 million illegal immigrants to be lawfully in the country and eligible for work permits, but it still deems them ineligible for public benefits such as buying insurance on Obamacare’s health exchanges.
Under the Affordable Care Act, that means businesses who hire them won’t have to pay a penalty for not providing them health coverage — making them $3,000 more attractive than a similar native-born worker, whom the business by law would have to cover.
The loophole was confirmed by congressional aides and drew condemnation from those who said it put illegal immigrants ahead of Americans in the job market.
“If it is true that the president’s actions give employers a $3,000 incentive to hire those who came here illegally, he has added insult to injury,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican. “The president’s actions would have just moved those who came here illegally to the front of the line, ahead of unemployed and underemployed Americans.”
A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed that the newly legalized immigrants won’t have access to Obamacare, which opens up the loophole for employers looking to avoid the penalty.
If true, and it would appear to be the case, this is rather disturbing. I don't understand why illegal aliens should get preferential treatment over US citizens.
Now one can assume that this is an unforeseen consequence, opting to give politicians the ill-deserved benefit of doubt, but if not, what exactly is Obama and the Democrats who sausage-made ObamaCare thinking about?
They aren't getting preferential treatment. Quite the opposite actually, seeing as they are no eligible to buy federally subsidized health insurance, nor do employees have any obligation to contribute to their health insurance.
Your other options are (A) Give illegal immigrants access to the same insurance pools as citizens or (B) Impose financial penalties on business owners who opt not to contribute to their health care. Now, if Obama had opted for either A or B, we would likely have a similar thread griping about preferential treatment given to illegals as well. It's your classic lose-lose situation and a specious complaint to be frank.

Greetings, Erik. :2wave:
How can they have both e-verify and this at the same time? Isn't that two conflicting laws? Oh wait. E-verify Reports will probably have to be sent to DC on a weekly or monthly basis, so the government will now know who isn't filing income tax, so the 15,000 tax agents that he hired a year or so ago will now have something to do? Oh, okay. "You can't make this stuff up." >Theresa Caputo. If they keep coming up with this S***, I'm going to get jaded, and not believe a word they say!

What are you talking about? Those "illegals" which are given (3-year?) amnesty get EAD cards so that they can pass E-verify but are still not US citizens and thus are exempt from the PPACA employer requirements and not eligible for the state/federal PPACA exchange subsidies.
Greetings, ttwtt78640. :2wave:
Well something will have to be done about that! That's just plain unfair to the illegals. If they lose their job, will they be eligible for unemployment compensation?
