WASHINGTON — President Obama will use his State of the Union address to call on Congress to raise taxes and fees on the wealthiest taxpayers and the largest financial firms to finance an array of tax cuts for the middle class, pressing to reshape the tax code to help working families, administration officials said on Saturday.
The centerpiece of the plan, described by administration officials on the condition of anonymity ahead of the president’s speech, would eliminate what Mr. Obama’s advisers call the “trust-fund loophole,” a provision governing inherited assets that shields hundreds of billions of dollars from taxation each year. The plan would also increase the top capital-gains tax rate, to 28 percent from 23.8 percent, for couples with incomes above $500,000 annually.
Why do they suckanonymous polls suck
Why do they suck
1) because we cannot see real results
Many do not like public polls- voting.
Many will not respond honestly when a poll public or skip voting.
Reason why I make mine for the most part private.

This idea of Obama's is little more then him trying to look good for the history books.
The estimate is this tax will generate an extra $32 billion per year. Big deal. It will hardly put a dent in the deficit.
But people - like on here - will probably support it out of envy and resentment...they resent the rich and want the government to punish them as much as possible.
That is what this is about...envy and resentment.
You know, you keep saying that tax changes like these are wrought of envy and resentment. Class warfare.
Would it bewilder you to know that many of us support taxing wealthier people more, to ease taxes on less wealthy people, because it will help us all to make more money?
My primary customers are not wealthy people, nor are they poor people....they are the various degrees of wealth in the middle. Lower middle, middle, and upper middle. It seems to me, that if they have more money, they will likely give more of it to me.
This is good for me. Why is it not good for you?
Ideally, capital gains would be taxed at the same rate as regular income.
ideally all income should be taxed the same for all people
Alright, so let's say everyone pays 10% income tax. For someone below the poverty level, this 10% might mean they can't pay for new clothes for their kids. For a millionaire, this means they can't build their 3rd swimming pool. You have to recognize that people with different income levels have radically different lives and implementing a 'one size fits all' income tax would be incredibly naïve.
why are people that poor having children.
and your stupid comment about a third swimming pool shows how detached from reality your view is.
why should everyone who makes more pay more in terms of percentages? your argument against the same rate for everyone is legitimate for a higher rate for everyone who makes the same amount
What kind of question is this? Do you not realize that people can be fine financially, and then something like the 2008-2009 financial crisis happens and they lose everything and find themselves in this situation. Talk about 'detached from reality.'
It's just example, albeit somewhat exaggerated, of a luxury. Higher taxes on the rich prevent them from buying luxuries. Higher taxes on the poor prevent them from buying necessities.
Because taxing luxuries is morally superior to taxing necessities.
many people you call rich are going to be pinched with higher taxes. If you are the parent of two high achieving children, you can easily be paying 100K a year for tuition at two Ivy league colleges. So if you make 300K a year you are considered "rich" by the parasites and after taxes and tuition you might only have 50K or so left . Hardly a huge amount of wealth required to buy lots of luxuries
and what is a luxury? if you are on minimum wage-a television or a cell phone is a luxury
paying for what you use is the ultimate morality that is superior to your attitude that I have a duty to pay more for those who aren't as industrious or talented
... The vast majority of people have literally no relation to this statement. So I guess I and the vast majority of people who couldn't afford to go to an Ivy League college are just parasites, huh?
A luxury, according to Merriam-Webster, is "something that is expensive and not necessary." Neither a cell phone nor a television are a luxury because both communication and access to information are necessary for life in the 21st Century.
Talent is not measured by wealth. That's an absurd statement.
God, does this guy suck.
Yes....thinking that the middle/working classes deserve a break is such an awful thing. It sucks having a President that cares about the people who are struggling in this country.
Boy, if you think that is what he is doing, you better take off those rose colored glasses, because you are missing everything.
