Obama makes rare campaign trail appearance, people leave early

UPPER MARLBORO Md. (Reuters) - President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity.
With approval levels hovering around record lows, Obama has spent most of his campaign-related efforts this year raising money for struggling Democrats, who risk losing control of the U.S. Senate in the Nov. 4 midterm election.

Reminds me of Republicans and Bush.

The mid terms with President Bush he actually won seats in both the senate and the house besides there has never been a president as bad as Obama...........

Eh, I don't know about that. While Lincoln is generally looked upon as favorable, the actions and decisions he undertook were at times, obviously, well beyond the powers granted to him by the U.S. Constitution, with some of those actions and decisions greatly contributing to the Civil War. Many successors since have usurped more-and-more power for the Chief Executive. There are many Presidents that I can sit down and fill legal pages worth of their ****-ups as POTUS, left-wing or right. I suppose one of the main points that I am driving it is anti-partisanship. Partisanship has the potential, just as much as our power grid flatlining or a mutated airborne Ebola strain, to destablize and possibly destroy our homeland. Think of it this way: look at how truly divided we are as a nation right now. Now, imagine if when the Ferguson riots/protests were at their peak, that the militarily armed and trained police officers opened fire on their opposition willy nilly.

I don't know if your intentions were to just paint our President in bad light, but as it is right now, all hands on deck are still required to safely maneuver our great ship through the troubling waters all around us, again, being anti-partisanship.

Maybe this will be the wake-up call he needs that gets him to stay in Washington and actually lead.

Wait...what am I saying?? Obama...lead?

Damn...Democrats...swallow your pride...invite Obama to campaign for you. The more he's out there campaigning...the less he's in Washington "leading"...the better off the country will be.

The GOP got killed in the 2006 midterms. What on earth are you talking about?

I thought I made it pretty clear. I was painting him as the worse president in history and by their actions a lot of people are beginning to notice that.

You do know there are 2 midterms during presi... why am I even bothering.

The question is why do your ever post to my threads.....Just put me on ignore........thanks.......It is rare when a president picks up seats in a mid terms and GWB did that in 2002.

To each their own, I suppose.

Heya Jango. :2wave: I guess it would be the same for the media.....From the Atlantic.

Our Passé President....

For a president once mocked by his critics as little more than a celebrity, it was the ultimate indignity: Scores of people left a packed campaign rally Sunday before President Obama finished speaking It wasn't immediately clear why, according to Reuters, "a steady stream of people" departed the event held for Maryland's Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Anthony Brown. Reporters guessed they just wanted a photo of the president, or they wanted to beat the inevitable traffic jam caused by the 8,000 some-odd people who stayed. Perhaps those who departed a rally held just outside the Beltway suddenly realized they had heard Obama's stump speech a dozen times before.

Whatever the reason, the conjured image was a sad one for the president, whose approval rating is stuck in the low 40s and who is already a surrogate non grata for many of his party's candidates. At a moment when a popular president would be crisscrossing the country in the midterm campaign's final stretch, Obama's schedule this week is actually rather light. He's casting an early vote in Chicago on Monday ahead of an afternoon fundraiser, and after that the only event on his public calendar for the rest of the week is another fundraiser in Washington. Obama's campaign skills haven't diminished, and thousands of people still pack the halls and cheer his name. But at the moment, he's out of style. And if any Democrats were having second thoughts about passing up a presidential appearance, Sunday's headlines from Maryland probably cleared them up quick.....snip~

Rewriting history now huh. the midterms under President were in 2002.

You do realize Bush served two terms, and thus was President during two midterm elections -- 2002 and 2006, correct? Just like the midterm elections under Obama were 2010 and this year's.

This story smells fishy. A sold out Obama rally in a place that voted for him heavily, and a crowd people just left? There's something more to this, isn't there.

You do realize the rules changed in February of 2009 with these people.
I don't need to regurgitate all the GOP flip-flop etch-a-sketches, such as their non-concern over deficits until Obama.

Now, they shamelessly want to pigeon-hole Obama in the White House.
While FOX shows where he doesn't go and who takes his place, like Michelle or either Clinton .

If there is something more to it, then it is how the media has turned on Obama. You might could say it was a hit piece by teh eeeeeevil Fox News. Except...its Reuters.

Trying to pigeon-hole the President in DC I see.
How very GOP of you .

According to the Politico article on the same appearance:

Barack Obama tries to energize base in Maryland - POLITICO.com

The crowd was energetic in waiting for the president and in welcoming him to the stage, but once the president started speaking, the crowd began streaming out, a few at first, but then by the dozen once Obama was about 10 minutes into his talk. Still, the vast majority of the large crowd stayed for the full event.

I'd be curious to see an actual photo of the entire venue. This strikes me as a bit of a non-story.

The pictures tell the story.

Plus, an audience member felt the need to heckle our sitting President...but, of course, that's nothing new.

Given that those were three photos that showed a very small part of the venue, then no, they don't tell the entire story.

Plus, an audience member felt the need to heckle our sitting President...but, of course, that's nothing new.

According to the Politico article, the audience basically drowned out the heckler.

I don't blame you at all for not wanting Obama to lead our nation. I don't either.

Yeah. Everyone is turning on our President, even from his own party. I wasn't on political message boards when Bush was POTUS, was the hate and disrespect for him as palpable as it is for Obama?
