UPPER MARLBORO Md. (Reuters) - President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity.
With approval levels hovering around record lows, Obama has spent most of his campaign-related efforts this year raising money for struggling Democrats, who risk losing control of the U.S. Senate in the Nov. 4 midterm election.

Eh, I don't know about that. While Lincoln is generally looked upon as favorable, the actions and decisions he undertook were at times, obviously, well beyond the powers granted to him by the U.S. Constitution, with some of those actions and decisions greatly contributing to the Civil War. Many successors since have usurped more-and-more power for the Chief Executive. There are many Presidents that I can sit down and fill legal pages worth of their ****-ups as POTUS, left-wing or right. I suppose one of the main points that I am driving it is anti-partisanship. Partisanship has the potential, just as much as our power grid flatlining or a mutated airborne Ebola strain, to destablize and possibly destroy our homeland. Think of it this way: look at how truly divided we are as a nation right now. Now, imagine if when the Ferguson riots/protests were at their peak, that the militarily armed and trained police officers opened fire on their opposition willy nilly.

I don't know if your intentions were to just paint our President in bad light, but as it is right now, all hands on deck are still required to safely maneuver our great ship through the troubling waters all around us, again, being anti-partisanship.

Reporters guessed they just wanted a photo of the president, or they wanted to beat the inevitable traffic jam caused by the 8,000 some-odd people who stayed. Perhaps those who departed a rally held just outside the Beltway suddenly realized they had heard Obama's stump speech a dozen times before.

Whatever the reason, the conjured image was a sad one for the president, whose approval rating is stuck in the low 40s and who is already a surrogate non grata for many of his party's candidates. At a moment when a popular president would be crisscrossing the country in the midterm campaign's final stretch, Obama's schedule this week is actually rather light. He's casting an early vote in Chicago on Monday ahead of an afternoon fundraiser, and after that the only event on his public calendar for the rest of the week is another fundraiser in Washington. Obama's campaign skills haven't diminished, and thousands of people still pack the halls and cheer his name. But at the moment, he's out of style. And if any Democrats were having second thoughts about passing up a presidential appearance, Sunday's headlines from Maryland probably cleared them up quick.....snip~

The crowd was energetic in waiting for the president and in welcoming him to the stage, but once the president started speaking, the crowd began streaming out, a few at first, but then by the dozen once Obama was about 10 minutes into his talk. Still, the vast majority of the large crowd stayed for the full event.

I'd be curious to see an actual photo of the entire venue. This strikes me as a bit of a non-story.
