Arrogance? Did you even read the same statement everyone else read? How is saying other people deserve it more than he does arrogant?
Fail.... at what? Dude, just admit it. You posted a lame attack thread and didn't even bother to check up on it. Then got your ass handed to you. End of story.
Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"A great man is always willing to be little."
Obama NEVER is.
There is absolutely no reason under the sun that Obama needed to refer to himself at all in this, and it's gauche to have done so multiple times -- especially toward the end when he mentions going to the ceremony last year.
As for "absolutely appropriate," I cannot find another occasion where the President (any President) took it upon himself to issue a statement regarding the awarding of the Peace Prize. While it's not inappropriate for the President to do so, it IS apparently unprecedented. Some of you try to make it look like it's a matter of course. It isn't.
i have emphasized the text which documents his position that the current winner is more deserving of the award than was ObamaOne year ago, I was humbled to receive the Nobel Peace Prize – an award that speaks to our highest aspirations, and that has been claimed by giants of history and courageous advocates who have sacrificed for freedom and justice. Mr. Liu Xiaobo is far more deserving of this award than I was.
A great man is always willing to be little
Obama exhibited humility in his statement. it follows:
i have emphasized the text which documents his position that the current winner is more deserving of the award than was Obama
seems to me that very much exemplifies the quote you offered:
the underlying premise of this thread is a massive fail
Obama is such a hypocritical piece of work. He flashes his arrogance and yet says he was "humbled" to receive the peace prize.
Nice cherry-picking. So he throws a bone into a tract of multiple self-references. If that were all he said about himself, you might have a point. If he didn't have a long, long history of making everything about himself, you might have a point.
But it wasn't, he does, and you don't. So, the massive, sycophantic, toadyist fail is yours.
Obama honors Nobel winner with statement about himself
There was an extraordinary scene at the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo Friday morning. The prize went to imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, who was barred by the Chinese government from attending the ceremony. It was the first time since 1935 -- when the prize went to a winner imprisoned in one of Adolf Hitler's concentration camps -- that the Peace Prize winner or his repesentative did not appear personally to accept the award.* Liu's absence was symbolized by an empty chair on stage.
So on this notable occasion, the White House released a statement from President Obama on the awarding of the prize to Liu in absentia. And this is how Obama's statement began:
One year ago, I was humbled to receive the Nobel Peace Prize -- an award that speaks to our highest aspirations, and that has been claimed by giants of history and courageous advocates who have sacrificed for freedom and justice.

the one you insisted was cherrypicked, when it actually exculpates Obama of any charge of arrogance or having lacked humility in his speechMr. Liu Xiaobo is far more deserving of this award than I was.
cherrypicking you insist
let's look at some cherrypicking
by going to the OP:
notice that the following sentence ... the one demonstrating humility ... was omitted from said OP ... otherwise the presentation that Obama was arrogant would have been lost
let's look at that omitted sentence:
the one you insisted was cherrypicked, when it actually exculpates Obama of any charge of arrogance or having lacked humility in his speech
again, you, like the OP, have failed to make a valid presentation
How is it that you can quote my response and then simply repeat exactly what you said, when it was what I was responding to? The "IS TOO!!!!!!!" school of argumentation. :lamo
Oh, well. At least you didn't white anything out this time.
Obama is such a hypocritical piece of work. He flashes his arrogance and yet says he was "humbled" to receive the peace prize.
What has the Bamster done to deserve the Nobel Prize? Nothing. Obama has never endured suffering for his views. He's always been rewarded for being a leftist by other leftists.
I did not realize you were on the Nobel committee. Its their prize and they award it as they see fit. You can do the same with your own prize.
the OP avoided inclusion of Obama's statement which would be perceived as a humble one
the OP mischaracterized Obama's speech as lacking humility by omitting his humble words
and you are defending that misuse of Obama's truncated speech while simultaneously complaining that inessential elements of your post were whited out
hypocrite much?
But the fact of the matter is they (the Nobel committee) did diminish the weight/credibility of the award when they bestowed it on Obama. At some future date he (Obama) may have performed deed or deeds that merit a peace prize. But at the time he was given the award he had done nothing to deserve it.
Suspect this is part of the reason his words (Obama's) are now being parsed/scrutinized a bit...
.
Exactly, thank you.
I mean, I don't like hyperpartisan BS most of the time, from either side. I don't like Obama but I don't like seeing petty and meaningless criticism of the President over trivia.
But, holy cow the HYPE there was over this man before he'd even entered office! The birds were going to sing a new song, peace was going to break out all over, the troops were all going to be home in six months, Gitmo would close instantly, etc etc.
Somebody has to be a bit embarassed now...
Your feigned outrage would be so much more believeable if your mouth foam drooled the same in the 30 or so palin threads. Same goes for your peanut gallery.... Hypocritical much? :ssst:
Somebody is not making any sense. Feigned outrage at what? A simple google search will show you that you posted a lame attack thread which took an excerpt out of context. That's not feigned outrage. It's you acting like the interwebz couldn't have debunked your thread and getting called on it. Grow up?
Then feel free NOT to post then....
True, it's not an issue at all, it's more of an insight into the man running my country. Hardly as serious as something like Palin getting a reality show. :ssst:
It took about as much skill as it takes to jump over a rope which is laid out on the ground. The mental gymnastics required to make this sound arrogant is amazing. Conservatives really can take anything the man does and convince themselves it's bad somehow. Obama hugs a kitten... WHY DOES OBAMA HATE PUPPIES!? MAN'S BEST FRIEND, OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! WHY IS HE HUGGING A KITTEN INSTEAD OF FIXING THE ECONOMY HUH?
True, it's not an issue at all, it's more of an insight into the man running my country.
The end result is Obama talked about himself more often in that release than he talked about the current recipient.
Narcissistic.
