It may not be an issue in a state like New Jersey, but in states like Oklahoma and Mississippi, it could be a different story.
Any evidence of Ok or MS, or was this speculation? Thanks
Well founded speculation. States thats that are very socially conservative have not exactly been on the forefront of civil rights, much less same sex civil rights. Spend some time in Arkansas or Mississippi, and you will feel like a Liberal.

It won't stick. If this is simply Federal policy then it can be re-written if the GOP come back to power, and you know they'll do it.
I suspect people have been denied in the past over this, but whether or not it still happens is irrelevant to the security this will bring to homosexual couples who might not be taken seriously by the health establishment. I also like what this implies for equal protection at the Federal level.

Having lived in both the North East, NYC, and the South, Dallas, I have found the (how do I say this?)...The cultural discrimination against gays to be about even btwn the two areas.
Has NYC passed a law that went so far as to curb child visitation rights for gay and lesbian parents and to ban gay and lesbian couples from adopting like Arkansas has?
I didn't say it was uniformly the case, but in the case of my uncle, had his partner been married to a woman, they wouldn't have felt it necessary to get the power of attorney just in case.

****ing A. It's about time this country came out of the dark ages when dealing with homosexuality.
I went to MS on a business trip. I thought I was in another country.

I agree with this.....It is not really a problem though...All one has to do is get a power of attorney....In fact most legal difficulties gays have can be handled this was way.
It would be very simple to handle these difficulties. State recognized gay marriage would do that.
Even easier, Get the government out of the marriage business so that they can stop playing class/family warfare with families.
I really do not think the government should be out of it because of things like property rights and what not.
Power of attorneys, wills, and other legal documentations should be made available to couples...
And the lawyers bank accounts would just love that
I think the gubbiment should drop the word marriage and just call it a civil union for all.
The article in the opening case mentions a specific case in Florida when it happened.

I had an appt in Berkley, CA, once. I thought I was at a circus.
Civil rights refers to race or gender not homosexuality.
