Barack Obama administration 'prepared to talk to Hamas' | World news | guardian.co.ukThe incoming Obama administration is prepared to abandon George Bush's doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organisation, sources close to the transition team say.
The move to open contacts with Hamas, which could be initiated through the US intelligence services, would represent a definitive break with the Bush presidency's ostracising of the group. The state department has designated Hamas a terrorist organisation, and in 2006 Congress passed a law banning US financial aid to the group.
The Guardian has spoken to three people with knowledge of the discussions in the Obama camp. There is no talk of Obama approving direct diplomatic negotiations with Hamas early on, but he is being urged by advisers to initiate low-level or clandestine approaches, and there is growing recognition in Washington that the policy of ostracising Hamas is counter-productive. A tested course would be to start contacts through Hamas and the US intelligence services, similar to the secret process through which the US engaged with the PLO in the 1970s. Israel did not become aware of the contacts until much later.

Yeah, look at that, Obama wanting to reverse the decision to isolate Hamas. Just freaking brilliant. I'm sure the Israelis just feel all kinds of safe with this genius coming to the WH. He starts this crap up and the first notion they have Iran is gonna get a Bomb out they'll attack, cause were I them, I sure as **** wouldn't put my trust in Obama.
It's a good thing they're not you then.
The "I don't like you so I'm going to call you bad names and not going to talk to you" foreign policy of the Bush administration didn't produce great results.
And the hug Arafat Clinton approach worked?
Yeah, cause Hamas would keep being isolated. They really don't care about our notions of peace, they care about destroying Israel.
Unless The Obama can convince Hamas that Israel -does- have a right to exist, he's just wasting his time.Yeah, look at that, Obama wanting to reverse the decision to isolate Hamas. Just freaking brilliant. I'm sure the Israelis just feel all kinds of safe with this genius coming to the WH.

Racism... and their insatiable desire for genocide. We are rewarding Hamas for their incredible racism and nothing more.
Got a peace agreement between Israel and Jordon in 1993. What's Bush accomplished. Other than starting the wrong war by mistake, I mean.

The problem is this:Tis kinda my point, history has shown no one is gonna do that, and well.. If HE doe sdo it, and peace breaks out, and everyone is happy... I'll eat my words, and be happy to do so. However, I'm not one of the O kool aide drinkers, and I don't for a moment think he has the slightest chance in hell.
Well, seeing as Isolating Hamas has done such a great job bringing peace to the region, (I mean just look at how low the body counts are!) I have to say this is a terrible idea! He could like, end up starting a war or something!!!!
There is never going to be peace in that region! We need to just start facing that fact. The Palestinians do not want peace. The Israelis just want to be left alone on their tiny little sliver of barren land.
Muslim hatred of anybody not just like themselves is the cause of 100% of the problems in the Mid East. If it were Christians with their own tiny country it would be the same thing.
Given that the entire conflict is driven by the fact that Hamas and Hezbollah refuse to recognize Israel;s right to exist and have vowed to not stop fighting until Israel is destroyed, I'm not sure how you can describe the situation as as product of anything BUT Palestinian agression. Here it comes again ....
Israelis are the poor victims to Palestinian/Muslim agression. Please.

Muslim hatred indeed.
If it was Christians who created a country by forcing out the Arabs, your damn right they'd be getting it just as bad.
If however, they created a state in a land that wasn't surrounded by Muslim nations and didn't force out the indigenous population. Then it would not be a problem.
