Obama administration rebuffs D.C.’s efforts to bring back the Redskins.....

Both the term "redskin" and that piece of **** flag you are so proud of are both racist symbols. Anyone who is proud of the Confederacy is a few brain cells short of common sense.

I guess the joke went over your head

The shape of Texas is racist to you? Kinda ironic with a username like Texmex

Well, yes Texas is racist. Texas is where I was born. Mexico is where my wife was born. Thus, Texmex.

Actually, it's that rebel flag that is disturbing. Why would want to brag about getting their asses kicked?

Okay then, "undisclosed lean."

You seem infatuated with my lean. I am infatuated with your Username, both seem to fit.

Democrats that are afraid to admit they are democrats are hilarious.

Posters who worry about someone's lean on the Internet is both hilarious and ignorant.

Isn't your "lean" undisclosed? Anyway, we all disclose our lean in our posting history wouldn't you say. ;)

I say President Obama should involve himself in more important things and leave the name of a ****ing NFL team to others. This is typical BS. Of course the left hates Dan Snyder and we all know why...

Agreed. The supposed leader of the free world should have much more important things to do then moronically get involved in an issue over a professional sports teams name.

Agreed. However, it is telling that this is how Obama sees the world and this nation, and his choice of priorities.

He's correct in that the name is very offensive, but it seems like a waste of time to spend political capital on.

Seems the Democratic Governor of Virginia disagrees. Hard to believe, huh?

When has McAuliffe spoken in favor of moving the team to Virginia? I'm just curious, because the article doesn't mention McAuliffe and I haven't heard of him taking action on it anywhere else.

It is not offensive.

If one calls someone of Native American descent a redskin, it's pretty clear that that is a racial slur.

Well here, it was up in post 22.

McAuliffe said 66 percent of the team’s season ticket holders live in the commonwealth, as do almost all the players. The team already has its headquarters and practice facilities there as well.

I would love to have the Redskins come to the Commonwealth of Virginia,” McAuliffe said in April. “It’s where they belong.”.....snip~

Interesting. Given that a large portion of the team's fan base is in Virginia and the state has a relatively small Native American population, it's a smart political move for McAuliffe. Given that it has little impacts, I doubt Obama will really fight McAuliffe on it, especially since it would be viewed as Democratic infighting rather than a partisan battle.

Yeah, and BO's only concern is the Team not being in DC. Regardless of a small Native American Population there.

Nope. In the 1930s when the team was named there was a popular opinion in the country that the American Indians embodied physical health and natural strength. This movement was probably an offshoot of the national stardom of super athlete Jim Thorpe, possibly the most talented football player to ever play the game in any era. The Washington Redskins adopted the name to capitalize on this national fervor after also hiring an American Indian coach and several Indian players.

Redskin as a term had been used to refer to native Americans as far back as the recorded reference by a chief to differentiate his own people from white people. The claims of "redskin" relating to scalps is apocryphal and likely made up entirely. The claim has been thrown out of court every time it has been submitted as evidence. So the word started being considered a "slur" long after the team was named, and bolstered by lies to make the term appear to be a historical slur.

Efforts to lure the Washington Redskins back to the District have come up against a potentially insurmountable challenge: the Obama administration’s objections to the team’s name.

Interior Secretary Sally Jewell told D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser this spring that the National Park Service, which owns the land beneath Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, was unlikely to accommodate construction of a new stadium for the Redskins unless the team changes its name.....snip~

What do you think of this? BO is offended by the Name of the Team. So that his excuse to not allow the Team to move back to DC. Sensitive lil bugger isn't he. Sure is offended by a lot of things too.

DC could use the revenue but now it looks like Virginia wants them to move there. McAuliffe is a true blue Clinton-ite to top it off. Seems they wouldn't have to change their name if they went to Virginia. McAuliffe isn't so offended like BO and his people. Should BO be dictating whether those in DC want a NFL Team? What say ye?

It would appear that you forgot the original source of distaste for the Washington Redskins. Here is a picture of the plaintiffs that successfully got the Redskins to lose their trademark.

As for the money from the Washington Redskins, numerous economists have studied this issue and found that Professional Sports teams do not have any significant impact on the local economy.
