It is alarming how MSNBC and segmants of CNN are on their knees to Obama. I cannot recall such worship, not even for JFK. This latest scandal on Obama in Illinois was a topic this morning and the CNN host said "let's get off that subject" when a caller insinuated Obama was linked to the governor. MSNBC starts off the Keith Oberman show with "only XX days before the inauguration of Barrack Obama". What is that?! All koodos to Obama for winning but let's not lose sight of what he is instead of creating a diety or apostle. If I were a paranoid liberal I would scream all this hype is a sham to build him up just to humiliate him when he actually takes office and gets whacked with the reality of what he faces.
If the media now is left versus right then that will eventually lead to (and probaly already is) an all out war to gain control of communication. Then what? I don't take Oberman or Limbaugh seriously but millions do not share my opinion here and that could lead to dangerous waters.
For those of you who pay special attention to rhetoric concentrate on the choice of words from here on in describing Obama's enemies and friends. Pay special attention to the inauguration. I hereby GUARANTEE everyone it will be flooded with savior-like praise. Be careful America we don't need Joseph Goebles in our newsrooms.

Good luck with that...

It is so in Europe pretty much, but getting worse now. Exception is Italy which have taken it one step further than the US, where the owner of the media channels is now president, the same president who own the media.

This I find outrageous and surreal. I almost can believe that it is real and accepted like I cant believe US politics and media as it is is accepted.

Sometimes I cry myself to sleep.

My media has toned it down a notch, its still worship but not to the extent it was before.

The UK is worst after Italy in Europe when it comes to media and politics. Far ahead of even France and their silly elections.

The UK is the best when it comes to Media.
We are not as bad as the French.

Our media actually has Freedom of press that is not limited

Its not about freedom of press, its about election circus and political pop idolizing celebrity style politics instead of what politics is suppose to be about. Its not about tv performance in reality but about what you achieve in politics.. Its not about the private lives of politicians, at least it shouldnt be about that. In this regard the UK fare worst in Europe ahead of France. Also the media is taken over by politics and politics is taken over by media, in this regard Italy is worst ahead of the UK and their circus.

Press freedom is not limited in France at all anyways.

I disagree.
UK Media is a wonderful tool against Politicians. Without it, the public wouldn't be aware of half the things Politicians do with taxpayers money.
There are many outlets of media that report politics wonderfully inside UK, Guardian, times, independent to name a few.

French privacy laws are very restricted.

Privacy is a good thing..
Private lives of politicians shouldn't matter as long as they do not break the law. Elections should be about political platform and cases not the latest scandal and making each other look dumb, or to brainwash the population into electing you.

I disagree and that is why our media is so different.
If someone is representing UK, i want to know if they do something.

Yeah, if they do something political, not private.. Why is it interesting if a politicans child goes to school 1 instead of school 2, or that he have had sex with a celebrity before he was married?

That is not the sort of thing that is focused on.
When a politicans spends ridiculous amounts of money on lavish things paid for by taxpayers money is when i want to know

Yes, but media in the UK is worst in focusing on other things than politics and best at avoiding looking at politics in politics. France is catching up, the US is worst in the world in this regard.

Such as what? Give examples

I just think the media is shamefully wrong in their focus on politics, which is focus mostly on things that aren't politics in politics. In Norway politics have mostly become about making a good figure in the media, in the media it is about scandals and such... Even elections aren't about politics anymore, which is why politicians in my country are a bunch of losers and my country is so under-achieving. Norway.

Well then that is just an opinion and based on nothing, I love my media and i hope it never changes.
I think UK has balanced the line perfectley. We have some media based on the type of reporting you describe and we have others that is just about politics.

I prefer to watch live broadcast from parliament.. Not some silly media opinions on politicans private lives.. It feeds on recent idiocracy which is being created by the media, and stupid as many people are they buy it. And the same people do not complain about where politics is at and how little real political progress we are making in this day and age.

...and where is the world where geniuses are in control of politics rather than the best public faces and the most perfect liars.

Plato, please, Plato..

Could you ever predict that media would ruin politics? Every politician must no me media savvy, which is far from the same thing is being genius, actually the new style media politics is probably preventing geniuses from controlling politics.

Outside of watching Parliament for Question time and Queen's speech, i rely on various newspapers for information.

Politicans have always needed to be media savvy, nothing has changed except the technology.

I dont like that, because political information through media is mostly distorted either by unseriousness or by politcal opinions. I prefer the raw material, and believe we would greatly benefit from 24 hour live broadcasts from parliament(which we do not have in my country).. And less connection between media and politics in general, especially less clowning in election time.
I want to see groups of politicans talking together on tv in election time like I see them in parliament, in a serious form, I do not want to see one politician going on some tv station alone to collect vote and speak to some unaware journalist, or a supporter of him, thats just unfair.

Politicans have always needed to be media savvy, nothing has changed except the technology.

This is the problem... Its a huge problem, it prevents the people who deserve it to take place in politics and replace them with a bunch of media savvy morons who can speak/look well, but perform little.

Afterall, politics isnt about white teeth, is it?

Too late. He has been there for the past 8 years, since Bush began paying news people to plant propaganda as new stories.

Example:The media attacked Sarah Palin for what the RNC spent on her campaign wardrobe. Why not include what Nancy Pelosi is given or Hillary by the dems just to either make Palin's budget appear outrageous or make it appear same ol story about what both sides spend?

Because the Liberal media is out to convert our children and indoctrinate them with their insane political views. Duh.

As opposed to mainstream media outlets carrying the Democrats water as part of the regular duties?

I'll take Bush ...

Carry on.
