Lets not forget one of the promary reasons jobs are sent overseas -- labor costs.Besides taxes, over the top regulations are another reason corporations send jobs overseas. Why isn't Obama looking at these as well? This will do nothing

When will The Obama act to make the US labiot market more competitve with those overseas?
There's much more to it than finessing the corporate tax here -- if a company can get someone to do the same work somwhere else at a significantly lower net cost, it will. That is the reason many democrats and republicans in congress are against this latest tax change. They argue that there must be a decrease in the corporate tax here in the states and an outsourcing tax hike, in order to turn the balance in favor of U.S. workers.

Let's see how the Right will spin this....higher taxes? socialism? Obama is making a concrete step to return jobs to America, and I can't wait to read why the Right is against it.
Your hero's gonna have Government Motors import cars from China. Any comment on that?
It is amusing that you think this is somehow going to return jobs to America. There is only ONE outcome from this kind of desperate grasp for revenues to pay for an unprecedented and almost criminally negligent $1.8 trillion deficit; fewer jobs for everyone, higher taxes for everyone, fewer corporations doing business in America and a flight of capital which is the engine of economic growth.
Lets not forget one of the promary reasons jobs are sent overseas -- labor costs.

Much to my surprise, you didnt answer my question:You want factory workers in America to earn less, perhaps equivelent to the pay in BanglaDesh? Is this Republican ideology or just your own bright idea?

This sort of thing only creates economic isolation and invites retalliation. This strains relations, which, in the global marketplace, is a bad idea.I cannot answer when, but how, if you so are inclined, is by the old ways of placing tariffs on products made abroad, just as the Chinese and others do to U.S. manufactured goods. By doing so, coupled of course with tax incentives for corporations, you create a level playing field.
Hmm. The free market that created the outsourcing is the same free market that will correct it.However, seeing as how Chinese wages are increasing 13% annually, it may not take long for the field to level on its own.

PROVE to me that lower wages in Bangladesh aren't the result of lower productivity. Because, if is almost always the case, lower productivity means lower payment, then companies aren't getting anything from evil "cheap labor". Maybe the gigantic taxes imposed on them in the U.S. and the regulations imposed by the government and labor unions there incite companies to leave instead?
Tariffs do absolutely nothing except make everyone pay higher prices than necessary. Why do you seem so happy that people are paying higher prices for things as India gets unionized?

Obama is curtailing freedom.
'nuff said.
The right is against it because it means they will have to pay Americans a living wage for those jobs. They don't want to do that when they can pay Hajeet in Bangalore $1.75 per week for the same work.
In a word, they are greedy and don't want to share.
They get ZERO sympathy. I say make the ****ers pay Americans to do those jobs.
Lets fix our economy before we subsidize the economies of other countries.
It is not about paying higher prices, it is about the exploitation of cheap labor. You seem to think companies are paying the same, yet profits show things differently. If you wish for the low prices to remain, then the workforce at home must find something new to do. How do you retrain the entire workforce, or allow them to retrain themselves, when they have no jobs to afford the ever-rising cost of higher-education. And tariffs do work, they work to give advantage to the home team, not a foreign economy.
Yeah ... you make a good point.
I think I was more referring to things like tech support.
I think Microsoft, Dell, Gateway, ect ... need to be forced to bring tech support jobs back to the United States.
If, as this article states:
U.S. Workers World's Most Productive - CBS News
...Americans are more productive than the workers of other countries, there must be something besides cheaper productivity (which is separate from cheap labor) that is encouraging businesses to leave the US.
I think anything that curbs outsourcing is a good thing. No one can sit there and say they patriotic while supporting the outsourcing of American jobs, those things do not go together.
Honestly, global free trade is on the list of things that must be accomplished, according to Marx and Engels, before communism can arise. It lowers wages, knocks down borders, and expands the "laboring" class. So really, Obama is fighting communism.

Are you serious? Lower wages in BanglaDesh are the result of people desperate for work. Could an American....ANY American, work for $4/day? Productivity has nothing to do with it.

Can the Left be against this stupid policy too?
Altering the tax code in a misguided attempt to keep jobs in this country is foolish. Outsourcing jobs makes American companies more profitable and helps them reduce the price of their goods/services to their consumers. The likely outcome of this policy is that more companies will incorporate outside of the United States, with very little impact on how many workers they hire in the United States versus elsewhere.
What makes Americans entitled to those jobs anyway?
