It's good to know that a couple of Democrats like Kathy Hochul and Gavin Newsom are going to go down fighting. If the Republican Nazis in Texas create 5 new gerrymandered seats, then NY and CA need to create 10 new gerrymandered seats.

Hochul really nailed it in her comments today.....no more tiresome lectures from academics and other weakling Democrats about "good governance". You cannot fight Nazis like Trump with one arm tied behind your back.

Trump and the Republican Nazi Party cannot be allowed to win and end our democracy....EVER.

Governor Hochul's comments today. --

“I’m tired with fighting this fight with my hand tied behind my back. With all due respect to the good government groups, politics is a political process,” Hochul said at a news conference with six Democratic state lawmakers who fled to New York to block Texas’s redistricting effort. “We’re sick and tired of being pushed around … the playing field has changed dramatically and shame on us if we ignore that fact and cling tight to the vestiges of the past. That era is over, Donald Trump eliminated that forever.”

She noted the only way to change the state’s redistricting timeline is to amend the New York constitution, which would require an affirmative vote for two consecutive sessions of the legislature. She said the effort could be on the ballot in fall 2027 and take effect by the 2028 election.

Hochul framed her response as a way to “fight fire with fire” in response to the Republicans’ effort, which she called a “legal insurrection” because of their use of the legal process.

“This is a war. We are at war. And that’s why the gloves are off, and I say bring it on,” Hochul said.

“I will put saving democracy as my top priority at any cost. Because it’s under siege. Just like those who put on a uniform to fight in battles across the ages. For centuries, we stood up and fought. Blood has been shed. This is our moment in 2025 to stand up for all that we hold dear,” Hochul later added.

"But they did it first"
Or did they? This shite has been going on for decades.

Just an excuse to get down in the mud without looking dirty.

But there is only one Jan 6 and only one attempt to steal a U.S. election --- Trump and the Republican Nazi Party on Jan 6.

Live with that shame.....FOREVER.

Oh, F'n please. Don't act like Ny, Illinois, and California haven't been doing this for a long time. Look at the numbers in the last election and then look at how the voting districts in those states are arranged to maintain a large margin for democrats, larger than the percentage of votes cast for democrats, so the democrats can maintain power.
  • New York: In the 2022 redistricting cycle, the Democratic-controlled legislature drew maps that favored their party. However, these maps were challenged in court and ultimately rejected by New York's highest court as a partisan gerrymander, violating the state constitution's provisions against drawing districts for partisan gain. A new, more balanced map was implemented, leading to a more competitive outcome in the 2022 elections.
  • Illinois: Democrats in Illinois drew a map after the 2020 census that gave them a significant advantage in the congressional delegation, leading to a 14-3 Democratic advantage. Some critics argue this diluted the voting power of Republican and independent voters. Currently, Democrats control all three branches of the Illinois government, which increases the risk of partisan gerrymandering. Republicans in the legislature have proposed a bill to create an independent redistricting commission to address this issue, but it has not progressed.
  • California: California uses an independent citizens' commission to draw district maps, which aims to limit partisan influence. While the commission's work has been praised for its transparency and fairness, occasional concerns have been raised about representation. Currently, there are discussions about potentially altering the map in response to actions in other states, but any attempt to bypass the independent commission would likely face legal challenges.

Your only valid point to argue is NY.

Good on Hochul and Newsome.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the re-gerrymandering of Texas districts smack dab in the middle of the Census decade.

This maneuver will add 5 additional GOP seats to the US House.

Republicans realize they are in trouble for the 2026 midterms. Polling and Town Halls are making that reality crystal clear.

She’s weak sauce.

NY members of house 19-7 democrats. Democrats have 73% of the members. Trump got 43% of the vote. Shouldn't the house members represent that in how they are districted for voting? That's what democrats want in TX.

I am very proud of NY’s anti-gerrymandering constitutional amendment. It’ll be a very sad day if/when it is repealed. This race to the bottom could have been avoided had SCOTUS done its job and recognized that partisan gerrymandering violates the First Amendment. Just another example of the Roberts Court royally ****ing up and endangering democracy.

Gerrymandering report card. There are 15 states with a grade of D or F. 12 of the 15 states are controlled by MAGA Republican legislatures.

By any objective measure, it's clear that Republicans are the much bigger sinners when it comes to gerrymandering. --

Could just have public financing, a reform of the reapportionment law, irv and proportional voting...except, you know, gerrymandered Congress.

If Texas does this, I don’t blame Hochul, Newsom or any other democratic governor to do the same. After all, it’s the republicans who started all of this. I oppose any type of gerrymandering, but what was done, the redrawing of the districts no matter how much gerrymandering was done after the 2020 census needs to stand or stay as is until after the 2030 census.

The republicans are putting their partisanship way above country and what is right and fair. As fair as politics can be which is very little. The republicans are definitely in the wrong.

So what texass is doing is just fine?
Yes. They have apportioned according to the voting and even include 2 new majority black and one majority hispanic districts based on the balloting. So why is that a problem. At least none of the districts look like a snake winding around all over to gather democrat voters.

And who prepared this bullshit opinionated piece of shit?

Hochul and company can do what they want, but CA, IL, and NY are on track to lose 9 seats after the 2030 census and FL and TX will gain 7.

Finally the Democrats are fighting fire with fire. Finally.

They should, just like the next Dem President should fire all Trump appointees and shutdowns DHCS, arrest Bovane for perjury and get him off the circuit courts (or whatever that ghouls name is), cancel contracts with Trump's buddies to dangle them for others for concessions from businesses, and constantly sue Fox News. Use the FCC chair to use every rule and regulation to make Newsmax, Fox, and whatever's life miserable.

I would rather us help burn shit down than sit on the sidelines watching it burn.

California is on board now. And I fully support this approach. If Texas moves forward, then we work to nuke as many R seats in California as we can. If they don't, we don't. Seems like fair play.

Good they should kill more gop seats after what Texas tried to pull

CA has a non-partisan commission to investigate draw districts. But the rule of law doesn’t matter to Dems.

LOL....you're hilarious.

Do you know what the Constitution says about who can implement tariffs?

Trump put a child molester in a minimum security prison and pardoned hundreds of Jan 6 domestic terrorists and you pretend to care about the "rule of law"???
