Just 31.9% of Americans call themselves Republican in a recent poll, down from 37.2% in October 2004 and 34.5% from the beginning of the year. That is a very significant decrease.

Democrats have risen slightly to 37.3% from 36.1%.

With this and the poll numbers decreasing for Harris in Florida after her religious rant, and voters ousting pro-creationists from Pennsylvania and Kansas school boards, and the low approval rating and chances of re-election for Santorum, one of the most openly pro religion and government mixing senators, I wonder if one reason for the declines is people getting sick of Republicans using religion for votes.

I don't know if the religion has much to do with it. But perhaps they are feeling ashamed of the GOP, trying to distance themselve from seeming to be partisan hacks. Look no further than the transformation of this site where several prominent GOP backers have now all voiced they are "conservative" "independents" as opposed to GOP backers. Turning off thier conservative/GOP elephants in favor of the default.
