“The most acute period of our military conflict with the West in Ukraine is entering its final stage. We have decided against using our most terrifying weapons to save as many lives as we can among both the civilian population and our valiant military troops. With that in mind, we have come to the realization that we might not achieve, at least for the time being, the same sort of victory in Ukraine that we did over Napoleon’s army. That war secured four decades of peace for Europe. We also don’t envision, for now, a defeat for the West along the lines of that dealt to Hitler’s army.”

This clumsy paragraph appeared on the official Rossiyskaya Gazeta Kremlin website on the morning of Aug. 8 and as yet has largely gone unnoticed both within Russia and throughout the world. The piece was credited to Sergei Karaganov, long considered to be a pseudonym used by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is easy to imagine him writing this through gritted teeth as it was most likely extracted under duress – but from whom? This one-of-a-kind text was published just three days after Putin returned from his visit to Beijing which suggests that the Russian dictator received a strong recommendation to back away from the strategy of nuclear blackmail that has constituted the essence of his entire foreign policy since March 18, 2014. Fast forward eight years to a joint press-conference held on Feb. 9, 2022, when Putin personally issued a nuclear threat – given in highly ungrammatical Russian – to President Macron of France should NATO dare to intervene on behalf of Ukraine.

Why did Russia’s maniacal nuclear terrorist Karaganov sign a document officially announcing “urbi et orbi” that the country “has decided not to use its most terrifying weapon?” This sorry excuse for a “Fuhrer” leading this sorry excuse for an empire is evidently “not seeking victory for the time being” in a war which he started. In other words, he plans to lose it. I might have an answer to this fundamental question. Comrade Xi decided to show both the Global South and the Global West two things: China’s potential to act as a peacemaker – the laurel wreath of a Nobel Laureate could be beckoning. The terrifying, uncontrollable Putin is in fact in a state of complete vassal-like submission to him. Still, I do not have answers to two other minor questions: Why has Karaganov (whoever he is) not yet shot himself? Why have the Z-patriots not yet removed Putin (by shooting or “early” retirement?

Yawn. So in other words someone without a shred of credibility, desperately flailing around wailing “Putin Putin Putin”, as is….pretty much always the case in the West.

Why should they. Putin and Xi have concluded that Russia wins by "not losing".

If the West acquiesces to Russia retaining the territory it has now, then Putin wins, even if he fails to achieve his goal of regime change in Kyiv.

Although all 3 "empires" (America/China/Russia) are in a state of decline, Russia has by far fallen the farthest. Under Putin, Russia has indeed become a vassal state of China. If China decides to cease buying Russian oil or supplying the Russian military with dual-use items, Moscow will be forced to sue for a cease-fire in Ukraine. The Russian war-economy is in a state of collapse and things are about to become much worse as Ukraine is destroying Russia's ability to refine and transport the oil and gas that are the lifeblood of Putin's military. Putin has so far refused to allow shortages to affect Moscow and St. Petersberg, but in the republics there are long lines at gas stations and many are dry and have closed. Russia today has 17% less oil and gas than it had last year at this time and this number will increase as Ukrainian drones and Flamingo cruise missiles now have the range to strike any refinery, anywhere in Russia. What will the Russian people demand? Fuel for their vehicles and to heat their homes and apartments this winter, or the continuation of Putin's imperialist war of expansion in Ukraine?

Last night in Russia.....

Hmm. It’s a stretch but plausible. I do believe that Russia largely exists at China’s will at this point and China could easily enable this war to perpetuate through 2030 or end it on Monday if it so chose. If you think about it, the only winner in this war is China. Russia and Ukraine wreck each other, the Weat is sapped of resources and China? It enjoys dirt cheap raw materials and gets to expand its economy and influence across Russia while getting essentially free data on Western military tactics and technology. And they know that they can maintain this status quo indefinitely since the West may say that it cares about Ukraine but it cares about keeping shelves stocked with inexpensive Chinese goods a whole lot more.

As opposed to you on here flailing around desperately trying to defend Putin and a Russian agressive war.

Are you claiming to be a credible source of info?

China wins by neither side losing.

Russia is now basically a debtor state to China.

Gee dude, you clearly think so or you wouldn’t have bothered replying to begin with

China is in decline. An ageing population. Protests that spring up. An economy that is not what it once was.

Xi is more like Mao than like Deng. Just as totalitarian, but more rational than Mao.

All China has to do to reverse it's "Aging population" is to allow some immigration and loosen up more on birth limits. Problem solved.

China will be around long after America has collapsed.

China is a Technocracy, and Xi is a far more competent ruler than Cheeto Jesus or Autopen.

So IT IS anti-Americanism with you. Sprinkled with a generous dose of admiration for despots of course.

Did you learn this in school? After the Pledge every morning?

They did loosen up. Only young people still aren't having kids.

Besides, they don't have 18 years to make the correction.

Of course. Everything he posts is about the glories of Russia and China, and the evils of the USA.

Always hilarious watching people screeching about “authoritarianism” and then blithely turning around and mentioning the fact that America demands kids pledge eternal loyalty and obedience five times a week.

Not at all.

Again, I served my country, but a country that puts clowns like Trump and Biden in charge has essentially failed as a democracy.

Instead of whining about the Chinese, we should be looking at what they are doing right. Investing in infrastructure, building goodwill around the world with the Belt and Road Initiative, and investing in education.

We used to do these kinds of things, but we don't anymore, for some reason.

Well said.

I don't think the USA is "evil". I think it's stupid. Our leaders prove me right every day.
