North Korea has refused to shut down its nuclear weapons development programme despite repeated warnings of economic repercussions from the international community.

Leader Kim Jong-un could now seek to further fan World War 3 concerns with new nuclear and missile test to showcase North Korea's military might.

Dr Matthew Kroenig said: "I think more tests are likely inevitable, unfortunately.

"Kim Jong-un would like to have a demonstrated ability to hold the United States homeland at risk with the threat of nuclear war."

The North Korean leader has been engaged in an escalating war of words with US President Donald Trump, who pledged to ensure the denuclearisation of North Korea to re-establish calm in East Asia.

But Dr Kroenig – who has served in several positions within the US Department of Defense – warned Kim is unlikely to heed calls to give up his arsenal.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News, the Georgetown associate professor said: "I think he wants to demonstrate he has an operational nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile and he is not quite there yet.

"Getting there will require more missile tests and more nuclear tests."

I really hope we don't have to go to war with NK, because of Trump's stupid ass mouth.

I know some Trump supporter's like Trump's tactics, and compare it to Regan during the Cold War, but the USSR and NK are very different. The USSR was made up of many ethnic groups and nationalities wanting independence. They were protesting the USSR, and the fact that they wanted to regain independence inherently made their nationalist uprising a threat the USSR. People within NK are loyal to NK, and are all Korean. The fall of Communist NK is not going to look like the dissolution of the USSR.

Every time Trump tweets about wiping out the Norks Kim just digs his heels in.

You can expect the next nuclear test to be over the Pacific because the mountain that the Norks have been using for their underground tests has become unstable. He will test but in the stratosphere with likely deadly & widespread destructive results. That could mean war, Word War 3. Bye all!

Let's put aside Trump's remarks.

Are you ok with NK having operational nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile? Would you rather the world ignore NK leader and let him build up his arsenal?

So what do you propose we do about it? A preemptive nuclear strike? That would bring in the Chinese whose ICBMs are aready pointed at us. Much of the Nork's strategic sites are near the border with China & the collateral damage would cause retaliation by them.

Seriously. Multiple MIRV’d warheads of hydrogen bombs, followed up with biologicals to clean up the survivors.

The only question is “is Kim afraid of death?” There is a 100% chance he will die if he takes a shot at the USA, so he either blackmails us or tosses the whole enchilada at us.

The good news though it the media has a new rabbit to chase!

That depends.

Is the nuke intended to be a offensive weapon in a upcoming war?

Or is North Korea seeking to create a nuclear arsenal as a deterrent againist possible military actions?

That would bring in the Chinese whose ICBMs are already pointed at us. Too many Nork strategic sites are near the Chinese border. To attack NK would be to attack China. You can't topple just one domino without tipping them all.

To continue his nuclear weapon development, Kim's only option is to test over the Pacific. Since that would have a destructive effect on the U.S., our only response would be nuclear retaliation.

NK is a threat to the USA and the world, which much much much much more important than that NK is a job for our temporary president.

Somebody seem to be suffering from TRUMPONTHEBRAIN.

Or is this a money making scheme to support the desires of the want to be rich leadership of an otherwise very poor country? If so, who are the potential customers that Rocket Boy and his pals have in mind?

I'd bet that there are a number of countries, groups & maybe wealthy individuals who could cough up the $$$ for a ready-to-fly ICBM tipped with a nuclear warhead. With Nork technicians to set the thing up & program in the target info for the inertial guidance system.

The Trump administration is planning a warning shot to damage specific missile sites, which would be enough to dissuade North Korea from conducting further tests. But no attack is forthcoming while negotiations are taking place between Koreans and during the Olympics.

Tensions between North Korea and the US remain high - despite a breakthrough with talks between South Korea and their communist neighbours.

According to the reports, General McMaster has been probing support for a sudden blitz on the North Korean state as a way for the US to "reassert itself" on the world stage.

The bloody nose strike would involve a limited US strike on North Korea as a warning shot and a way to damage specific missile sites.

What's different about that than the USA selling hi-tech Weapons all over the World? You use the resources you have.

I am not so sure that the delivery systems are where the profits lie - plenty of sources for rockets exist.

And you know this how? Oh yeah that's right you "read and analyze the news."

Right. Starting WWIII will sure dissuade NK & China from conducting further tests.

Sounds really really stupid to me!

Millitary strike= act of war

Right. Why wait for them to start WWIII? Isn't America supposed to be a world leader? Let's beat them to the punch! No 'First Strike Gap' will become the Republican's rallying cry as what's left us vote in November.

Why don't we just make an agreement where he keeps what he has and does not build any more? Kim is never going to give up his nuclear "protection".

Millitary strike= act of war

Depending on how close we get to their border, nuclear war with China may be inevitable. No such thing as a 'surgical strike' when these 2 countries are so close together.

His warheads & ICBMs are not yet fully developed & operational & need further testing of both. Read the first post in this thread again if you missed it.
