No jury trials allowed

If they could do it remotely it would work, but the jurors probably don't have the equipment, computer, microphone, camera. And even then, usually the judge has to keep a close eye on the jurors. They're often not allowed to talk to others, etc.

Sensible, since most of MI is a hotbed of virus, with the militia confusing selfishness for liberty.

They should just go ahead and suspend the Constitution here in this time of universal fear and deception.

Oh wait! They already have.

Yep it's suspended, please turn in your weapons and have your papers on you at all times plus there is a curfew where you are not even allowed to open your doors or windows. Can you post anymore of a "drama mama chicken little" comment?

Do certain facts scare you?

Sweep it under the rug and pretend you live in a free country. You'll feel much better, rather blissful I suspect.

blah blah blah. We still live in a free country. Go post your chicken little drama mama comments elsewhere to someone who might buy your BS comments. I swear some people turn into tantrum throwing brats the minute an inconvenience falls on them to save lives.

Save some lives, eh? LOL, you must be a Bishop in the Church of the Poisoned Mind and Gullible Souls.

Here, let me break out my world's tiniest violin for you to play "My heart is bleeding" along with a riveting "Woe is me" and for an Encore I'll finish off with "Freedom loving *****".

Oh, those who have a gullible mind, yes? These pathetic libertarians (pseudo) who have trouble cogitating what's for dinner much less understanding the Constitution and their duties as citizens in a social compact upholding American values are just pathetic.

I think the right to trial by jury is a relic of the 18th century and should be scrapped in favor of an inquisitorial system of criminal justice

Jury Trial has so many flaws:
1. Juries as biased and give bad verdicts - eg the Rodney King and OJ Trials - the acquit based on other grounds, typically on racial ground, but also on jury ignorance grounds too
2. They convict way too many times and deliver a miscarriage of justice
3. They are not fair - a rich man gets a far better deal than a man with a public defender
4. They're a large financial drain on the economy
5. Jurors are often demotivated and just do not want to be there

Sadly, not the right to bear arms and randomly kill people.

That bit hasn't been suspended.

Stop the chicken little routine. The people who have been accused haven't been convicted without a trial. Their trials are merely delayed because of a public health emergency. Serving on a jury would be a death sentance s, waiting 3-4 weeks is reasonable.

Due process has not been suspended, only delayed.

Jury trials have been suspended here in the Land of the Docile and Home of the Quarantined.

All jury trials postponed during coronavirus pandemic

Is this logical? Is it legal? Is it a decision based upon facts or upon fears?

It is legal so long as the right to a speedy trial doesn't come into play. Some cases take awhile anyway and I doubt that many people will complain they get a few extra months of freedom before they go to the big house. Our courts have been on emergency cases only lock down a couple months now and things like bond hearings are done by video conference.

Correct. Many of the people were released with a monitoring braclet pending their trial. I doubt that they have a problem with that action.

There's some controversy about that

People being let out of jail only to commit another crime.

Only those with no previous record and non-violent offenders. The quaraantine also makes it less likely.

And yet people awaiting trial for violent crimes will sit there for weeks if not months whilst there technically innocent...indeed some of the might actually be so.

I'd put that number at 50%. If they are guilty it is adjusted as time that they have already served, and if they aren't guilty then the state owes them money for their time wrongly spent behind bars.

The company I used to work for would terminate you if the charges weren't dropped in 28 days.

Rationalize the facts as you need to Lisa, but they are still facts.

You might not realize that many in prison cannot afford to post bond. They are ALREADY IN the big house, presumed innocent but in fact incarcerated with no end in sight.

That is a problem everywhere, do we just let them go on a promise to appear or incarcerate ?
