So would you have him say today that he recommends masks but only if new research some time in the future does not find masks cause breathing and psychological damage that random people online are discussing today?

Or maybe he should switch his today's advice to "I recommend you wear masks but I could be wrong because aliens might be weaving themselves into the masks and controlling all the people from there - so if we ever find that out, maybe it's a bad advice!"

If that is true for an ordinary person, why is it not true for a medical person?

Once again, it's ridiculous to have him say "based on what scientists know today" with each and every thought. And even if he did, everyone would dismiss that redundant statement anyway and so no, it would not be life saving at all.

He doesn't have to say "based on what we know now" for every statement but that one was a pretty big one to get so wrong and to sound so sure about. People died because of it, unless your claim is that masks don't save lives.

When the interviewer who was also a doctor said skeptically "are you sure? People are listening closely" that should have prompted a disclaimer.
