New Mexico officially meets gating criteria to reopen
Apparently this is a big controversy in New Mexico. The state has been in a continuous shutdown for months, even though they appear to have met the criteria for reopening. Now they've officially met (exceeded) all of the criteria, but the state won't change the order due to criteria they won't disclose.
Seems like if you set an objective criteria you should honor it, at least easing some restrictions. Perhaps even establish a plan for re-opening.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has set a standard we have to meet before the New Mexico economy can open. It's called the gating criteria and it's a set of numbers the state has to meet.
Up until Tuesday, we had met them all except one, which was the average number of new COVID-19 cases in a seven-day period. Which needs to be 168. Target 7 crunched the numbers using information sent to New Mexicans daily from the governor's office. Of Tuesday morning, it was 155.
KOAT asked the state and they say they are using a different number that is based on the date the actual test was taken, and they could not provide the number.
