New Mexico governor pulls back National Guard troops from southern border

Going home.

2/6/19
The governor of New Mexico ordered the withdrawal of the majority of the state's National Guard troops from the U.S. border with Mexico on Tuesday, in a move that challenges President Trump's description of a security crisis. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the partial withdrawal shortly before Trump's State of the Union address. Her Republican predecessor deployed National Guard troops to the border in April 2018 at Trump's suggestion, and 118 remained there before Tuesday's reversal. "New Mexico will not take part in the president's charade of border fear-mongering by misusing our diligent National Guard troops," Lujan Grisham said in a statement. Lujan Grisham traveled last month to New Mexico's southern edge for briefings from the National Guard and Customs and Border Protection, explaining that she wanted to see the situation for herself. On Tuesday, she also directed 25 troops from other states — Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Wisconsin — to withdraw from the New Mexico border.

Yup. Must be one hell of a national emergency. Other border state governors should also rethink their participation in Trumps border charade.

I would be more impressed if this had been done by a Republican governor and instead did not appear to be a widely-publicized partisan move by a Democratic governor. "There is no crisis of illegal immigration on the border because I say there isn't!"

From the article, a senior Democratic aide said as much:

“Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is strategic. It wouldn’t surprise me that she timed this release to send a direct message to the president,” a senior Democratic aide told The Hill.

This is all so much theater.

That's okay. Pentagon announced on Sunday that it will send an additional 3,750 US troops to the southwest border, for a total of about 4,350.

Let's see how she'll tell them to pack up their stuff and go home.

Do you cons have no shame at all? The entire bringing troops to the border is the partisan, political move. Notice how right before the midterms, Trump sent troops down to border at an absurd cost for this BS migrant caravan that was 1000 miles away. and then suddenly after the election, nothing. Oh, all this at an incredible cost, all political theater. Conservatives have earned the right to completely STFU about spending since they are OK with pissing away millions, and billions, for a political campaign slogan

Border crossing at a record low, so lets talk about who is really politicizing things to appeal to complete moron right wingers
