New Footage From Inside The Trump Insurrection at The Capitol

Every single person that entered our Capitol needs to be charged with sedition, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Should they be found guilty, they should be given nothing but maximums on every charge.

Watch the footage. These are terrorists. They just look like a lot of people who live in this country so this country is having a tough time grabbling with the extent of the betrayal we‘re witnessing here.
 
Great footage. Kudos to the lone cop in the Senate Chamber who tried to persuade them to leave.

Actually, **** him. His behavior towards them let them think what they were doing was fine. His entire plea was from a place of “awww come on guys”

I watched half of the video. I didn't see anything "harrowing". It was kind of boring and a lot of the demonstrators seemed to not know what they were there for.

Not much of an insurrection, if you ask me.
 
Interesting to see. It shows how it was a lot of chaotic individuals and small groups, expressing rage by just being there, misguidedly thinking they were in the right, they were patriotic, they were exercising their rights.

I think I'll give an irony of the month award to the guy in the Senate chamber yelling to everyone that it's a PR war, when this is the worst PR ever for them since the confederacy I'd say, topping events like Charlottesville.

That was a sensible approach to the situation. Alternatives were to have one on five violence, to shoot them, and so on. It was a de-escalating of the situation pushing to end it peacefully. Like police should do in some situations they don't. It is a little shocking to see, though when people expect the police to use force more.

He didn’t de-escalte. He made them feel at home, just don’t break nuttin, fellas.

I don’t agree that his behavior de-escalated though. He let them feel comfortable so long as they didn’t...do whagever vague thing he politely asked them not to. He should have made it clear they were breaking the law, and there would be consequences. He didn’t need to say any of that with a gun drawn. All the cops who had any non violent interactions with the insurrectionists should have been reiterating: what you are doing is illegal, you need to leave now.

And, yes, it would be nice. But we don’t live in that world so I”m not going to pretend that if these folks were Black, they wouldn’t be severely injured or dead right now. That’s how you eventually get to the nicer place, by acknowledging the issues plaguing this one.

His only tool at that point was persuasion. He was outnumbered so anything more forceful was not in the cards. In my opinion he showed professional restraint in not attempting to escalate. He didn't side with the rioters but neither was he a passive observer.

Actually, that is escalating. They knew he wanted them to leave. They were obviously acting against the direction of the police and the rules. Had the officer said that, it would be more likely to provoke a response of 'or what' and attacking him. Talking to them civilly was the sensible thing.

Yup. The most amusing point was where the mob chanting 'treason' then mutters something about sitting down and passing laws, with no irony whatsoever.

Escalation is allowing the folks storming the capitol to feel as though the cops are allowing them to do so, which is why they felt they were allowed to do so.

Thank god Eugene Goodman felt differently. Thank god.

The majority of videos I've seen doesn't show that. It shows cops resisting the rioters except where the police were substantially outnumbered or the crowd broke past them. There were a small number of cops who could have done better and maybe even some who cooperated. That will be thoroughly investigated.

There appears to be twso set of standards in LEO when it comes to different political and racial demographics in America.

If you're black or demonstrating for a liberal cause, you can be arrested for merely standing near a demonstration that police declare unlawful, or even you're out past some set curfew. Hell, even journalists all across the country have been arrested by police without justification. We've seen cops arrest hundreds who were simply marching and not engaging in any rioting whatsoever.

But if police see you're a white Trump supporter or demonstrating for a conservative cause, you're going to largely be allowed to run roughshod laws and boundaries you don't respect like covid mitigations, mask ordinances, gun control, voter intimidation at polls, brandishing weapons, attempts to break into state capitols, etc.

It is this double standard that has enabled cons to believe "law and order" doesn't apply to them, and they get to choose what laws they'll follow publicly.
