A Birmingham church is sparking controversy over a racially-charged message critical of President Donald Trump and his African American supporters. New Era Baptist Church, a predominantly-black congregation in the city’s West End neighborhood, put up the sign as election day approaches on November 5, 2024.
During the 2020 election cycle, the church displayed a message saying, “A black vote for Trump is mental illness,” on one side and, “A white vote for Trump is pure racism,” on the other.
Wow, to sit in on a sermon there must be quite the experience.

Harris supporters are hateful.

If you are suggesting that churches get out of politics, regardless of political affiliation, then I am all for that.

Imagine being a Black person who hates diversity and thinks police officers need immunity from prosecution.
Or if they don’t vote Democrat “they ain’t black”.

Ok

The funny thing about the relationship between American whites and minorities (especially blacks) in politics is it's basically a maternal racist argument on both sides of the political spectrum. Conservative or liberal, so many white people implicitly admit they don't believe blacks have any agency or ability to self govern.

Summarized, the liberal argument is that a black who votes right is a race traitor -- they're ignorantly voting for their own oppression. The conservative argument is that a black who votes liberal is an indentured slave who, consciously or otherwise, votes themselves into a permanent underclass by embracing social programs, inner city politics, abortion etc. etc.

But fundamentally it's just white people talking about how black people (and other minorities) should be managed in a way that best suits them. A form of noblesse oblige that sates the modern white man's need for equity and inclusion but still removes a true form of individuality and American-ness from blacks and other minorities.

If you don't like what a church says, you can stop going to that church.

I see a loss of tax-free status in their future.

Based on the article it seems like a Black person probably made the sign...but even so I don't think that justifies that kind of rhetoric.

Maybe they are just trying to get attention?

If a white church had done this then we’d be hearing about it from Democrats for the next 10,000 years. Note there’s not a wisp of condemnation from the left on this forum. They agree with the sign.
