Never Forget: The Old Guard Remembers 9/11

Camp Follower.

Who posts after I post.

Creates nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing at all in fact. Just follows my lead. Flattered I'm not however. I'd rather there would be nothing at all of this spoiler mentality.

Or does the camp follower follow MY lead ???

With Memorial Day approaching May 30th and observed on Monday, May 26th the ceremonial guards of the Joint Task Force - National Capital Region are well underway in their preparations for it.

Tomorrow on the Thursday before each Memorial Day TOG Regiment will take 4 hours before the opening of Arlington National Cemetery to "Flags In" place more than 400,000 small flags one foot front at each gravestone. The tourist season is well underway and the annual parade down Constitution Avenue will step off led by the marching platoon of each service ceremonial guard.

The Potus is supposed to place the unique President's Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Sergeant of the Tomb Guard Platoon marches along the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Plaza in preparation for a wreath laying ceremony on the May 30, 2024 Memorial Day in Arlington National Cemetery by President Joseph R. Biden.

The Sergeant of the Tomb Guard Platoon hands on guides the wreath to its place 4 feet center front of the Tomb during a formal wreath laying by a Potus, VP, SecDef or cabinet officer, a visiting head of state/government, a visiting foreign minister of defense or service, a foreign uniformed visitor chief of force and other like high officials of the USA or foreign allied and partner governments. Additional visitors both foreign or domestic are hands on guided by the SGT/SSGT commander of the Relief on duty.

While the Tomb is guarded 24/7/365, during Cemetery hours each day there are always Ft. Myer Federal Police undercover and armed at and around the Tomb. The Army that administers the Cemetery has "no comment" whether the Sergeant of the Platoon, commanders of the three Reliefs and the Tomb Guards themselves are issued any live ammunition. Each of the Tomb Guards three reliefs have 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off all duty. Post 9/11 Tomb Guards receive Special Pay in addition to their pay in grade.

The Old Guard Remembers 9/11 each day, every day. Year in and year out.

283 died on 9/11, mostly Pentagon staff on active duty or retired civilian employees from careers in the armed services. The respected dead includes the airline passengers and crew.

Ceremonial units in the Joint Task Force of the National Capital Region perform a commemorative ceremony each year to honor and respect those who committed their lives to defend the people in and of the United States.

Each day. Every day. The Old Guard Remembrs 9/11.

The Old Guard Caisson Platoon is now the Caisson Detachment and is commanded by a Lt.Col. veterinarian. The new detachment has all new horses after retiring its two dozen active horses and suspending operations in 2023. Caisson funerals in Arlington Cemetary will resume next month. This is despite a training incident in March that threw three riders while the four horses were contained to the post.

From the link on the resumption of Caisson funerals in Arlington National Cemetery:

Starting in June, two squads of 11 horses will perform two services a day for a total of about 10 funerals per week. Before the pause, some of the horses were working 45 days straight when they were supposed to get two weeks rest after 14 days of work. And it isn't just the welfare of the animals that is a focus, but the equipment. The old caisson weighed about 2,600 pounds. The new one is more than 1,000 pounds lighter. There has also been extensive training for unit personnel. Staff Sgt. Isaac Melton, a squad leader, told CBS News he didn't grow up riding horses, and says the first time he even came in contact with one was when he began training 15 months ago. He says that training has averaged about "eight to 10 hours a day." Melton says "perfection" will be going through his mind on day one of the program's return.

WASHINGTON — Three soldiers and four horses at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va., were injured Monday afternoon during a training exercise, the Army confirmed. The training accident occurred at about 2 p.m. between soldiers and horses of the Caisson Detachment of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as “The Old Guard.” Three horses unseated their riders but did not escape the base, Army spokesman Lt. Col. Patrick Husted said. “The three soldiers who were unseated received non-life-threatening injuries which required treatment at a local hospital. One soldier underwent surgery and remained at the hospital overnight, while two were released upon completion of treatment,” Husted added. Four horses also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have been examined and treated by onsite veterinarians. “None of the animals needed to be evacuated for higher level care and are expected to fully recover,” Husted said. One modified caisson wagon was damaged and was moved to the Caisson Detachment motor pool for further evaluation, Husted added. No further details about what happened were provided. The accident remains under investigation.

Since 2014 a small handful of military veteran posters -- that has become a trickle of one -- have lost their absolute ownership, total authority and complete control of the Military subforum. While the vast number of veterans have accommodated to the change, the overwrought butt hurt that is severe, singeing and ever present for one drives an unending resentment and hostility against sharing the Military subforum.

I myself and in general do not participate in the posts about weapons systems and platforms, the military experiences of other veterans and their values and attitudes. With my ETS having been in 1970 succeeded by decades of civilian life I seldom gave more than a casual attention to the initiation and development of increasingly complex and highly technological weapons. That's their thing which is fine by me -- I learn a lot about it from 'em. Their military experiences in a later time radically different from my time are theirs to post about and to share with their satisfaction and their fondness of it.

I respect these military fellow veterans who engage in their comradery and career accounts. I feel sad and sorry however for an absolute refusal to accept and to instead campaign to exclude or diminish my unique military experience, expertise and commitment. This is while I make my own posts about my own active duty honorable and unique military service as it was and which I am lifetime pleased and proud about and honored to have been chosen to do.

After a few continuous years of severe butt hurt beyond 2014 it had become clear that an unfortunate soul will keep at it in a state of terminal selfrighteousness -- as if he were the righteous judge of others. This is despite his seeing no personal problem in his obsessive, judgmental, interminable and self righteous hit and run camp follower posts.

A dastardly fellow.

You lied. Continually.

You attacked actual veterans. You attacked the NCO core. You attacked officers. You attacked the Marine Corps. You attacked those who actually served. You attacked those who pointed out your lies. You attacked the history with a vengeance. You attacked retired military. You attacked career military. You attacked here or there. You attacked everywhere.

Poor wannabe warrior.

Tell us again about your time traveling DD214.

For each Memorial Day TOG Regiment places some 400,000 flags at ANC. For too many Old Guard Soldiers there's one you know.....sometimes more than one....

Section 60 is for the fallen of Iraq and Afghanistan. The section and several sections were created in the late 1970s when ANC was extended due to it needing more space. To gain the space the South Post of Ft. Myer was removed. Until then Ft. Myer had North Post and South Post with ANC in between. It was no loss however as South Post was a much smaller administrative post of old buildings, very different from North Post where TOG has been garrisoned since 1948 and where numerous general officers have their official quarters in red brick residence buildings.

I don't mean to get under anyone's thin skin. It just happens that's all. No matter what it is. He has to gripe, scold, criticize. Since 2014 I'm afraid. Peace and harmony is verboten. No matter the topic -- because of the topic in fact. Spoiler stuff and endlessly.

Since 2014.

Interesting how you support someone who attacked actual veterans, attacked the NCO core, attacked officers ,attacked the Marine Corps, attacked those who actually served, attacked those who pointed out his lies, attacked military history with a vengeance, attacked retired military as well as attacked career military.

Says much about your nature.

Since 2014.

NCO Corps btw, not "core" although "core" is relevant but not the applicable and precise diction. That is, the NCO Corps is the backbone core of the armed forces. Officers providing the brainpower.

Also applicable is Camp Follower from way back and forever without end. More rhetorically and forcefully desperate these dayze too.

The Desperado of the Military Forum Him Self. Slipping and sliding away. Since 2014 reinforcements have always come and gone, ending up deserting the Lonely Lost Cause of the Lone Rager.

The officers are like a ship's captain, they decide where the ship goes, the NCO's get it there.

Autocorrect happens.

And not a word of apology for insulting thousands of service members....

Only commissioned officers are navigators. Enlisted personnel are not navigators of ships and planes. Pilots are officers in whatever the service to include Army Warrant Officers piloting heloes. Navigators direct the ship / plane on its course to its destination / target.

Navigation is not an NCO expertise in the Naval Services or the Air Force. In the Army and the Marines Land Navigation does involve NCOs but military Land Navigation is not the exclusive NCO calling. Throughout all the armed services staff officers and officers in command do geographic operational planning and execution of battle plans, not the NCOs.

Military sea and air navigators specifically need a degree in an accepted major field from an accredited degree granting institution of higher learning. All military officers need a degree (sooner or later).

NCO's who have no clue press the buttons instead and pull the levers while lower enlisted personnel keep their tools and carts handy. It's a team effort of interdependence and mutual trust. To include inter alia the military necessity and time tested factors of status, rating, strata, education and training.

The inarticulate hit and run post about "where the ship goes" is trite and a cliche'. It says nothing of value or significance. In other words it is a typical run of the mill post by the miller poster. After 20 years in.
